#2 KY is a tobacco state so kids that are harvesting, stripping, and hanging are working during football season but are free to play sports in the basketball season as it does not interfere with farm work.

I can attest to this. I played HS football in KY and I remember several times when kids missed practice because they had to work tobacco... cut, spike, hang, strip, bundle, etc.

#3 KY is a poor state so a winning sport is a source of state pride and with less wealth and less talent it is easier to compete in basketball (with just 5 players and little equipment cost) than football (with 11 players and much higher equipment costs)

I dont know if this is still the issue but when I was in school there were still a lot of small unconsolidated school district that had very small classes, maybe 30 -70 kids in a class.

One thing that has persevered time is the KY HS Basketball system. There is only one class and all teams in the state play for the one state championship. The smallest school plays against the biggest. Bear in mind that in football there is 5 or maybe 6 classes of FB...

What generation are you? How well do you know Bardstown folks?

Family came to Bloomfield before KY was a state so like 9th or 10th. Mom married an NC native and have lived here my whole life but visited Bloomfield to see my grandparents. I have a bunch of cousins in Bardstown but don't know many other people besides them. We had a family reunion with a couple hundred people in Bardstown recently, though many attendees don't live in Nelson County anymore.

A better question would be: Where would the SEC be without Alabama football and Kentucky basketball?

Just another run of the mill middling conference.

Not catholic. I'm gonna ask my uncle about this next time I see him.

Plus, Kentucky has traditionally focused on high school basketball. Heck, when I grew up in the 70s and 80s many high schools didn't even offer football as a sport. Few elite recruits came from Kentucky outside of Louisville. This has slowly changed with high school basketball in decline and football more popular.

One example: the 10th region high school regional is played in Maysville's gym which seats over 5000. In the 70s, 80s and 90s every game in the tournament sold out every year. Not sure about now because I don't go anymore. Football? Most of the schools had no team at that time, even the larger high schools like Mason county who probably had 700-800 students. Kentucky is just a different culture than the Deep South.

Yep, it's called Walnut Groves. Can't see the house from the road but I've got a picture of it from when my people lived there if you care to see it.

This is it. You been in this one?

I prefer Devil's Cut with diet coke over crushed ice. Clermont, Ky. But I also like Maker's. Only bourbons I care about.

Give Woodford Double Oaked a chance. No coke and maybe a single ice cube. Even my mom likes it.
