That is not true at all
Texas has scheduled Southern Cal, Ohio State and LSU all home and home for the next 7 years
After they play ND this year
Alabama is the one who refuses to play home and home

clemson, outside the top 25 on strength of schedule rankings in 7 of last ten years.

Outside top 15 in 9 of 10, yet makes thread referencing strength of schedule. Clemson is clemsoning

They cancelled the last two games of the Texas 4 game series to play UGA
Because they will be playing A&M after playing UGA

It's harder to schedule a home and home now.

It doesn't have to be a home and home. It can be stand alones at a neutral site. However, I also realize you can't do too many of those because of money....but we have scheduled home and homes with Clemson, and Notre Dame.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think Alabama is scared of anybody. But you certainly could schedule another P5 program. a LOT of schools would love to play Alabama home and home, and they wouldn't have to be big powerful schools.

ETA

Ok. I am seeing that it very well could be more difficult. Our series with GT IS a locked in last game series. I am still not seeing where it would not be possible, but it would probably be difficult.

Power 5 including ND

We play in the SEC West. We won't do it until we can learn to cheat smarter.

Out of curiosity, and a little off topic, kind of....but how far in advance were those two games scheduled? I really don't know.
Usually 2 to 3 years before.

Looks like Alabama has decided that they want to play the big teams for opening weekend in a big city or stadium for the recruiting and publiciy it brings. It kind of started in 2008.

Last few years...

2008 Alabama vs. Clemson - Georgia Dome, Atlanta
2009 Alabama vs VT - Georgia Dome, Atlanta
2010 Duke & Penn State home games
2011 Penn State home game
2012 Alabama vs. Michigan - Cowboy Stadium, Texas
2013 Alabama vs. VT - Georgia Dome, Atlanta
2014 Alabama vs West Virginia - Georgia Dome, Atlanta
2015 Alabama vs Wisconsin - AT&T Stadium, Texas

Future...
2016 Alabama vs USC - AT&T Stadium, Texas
2017 Alabama vs FSU - Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA
2018 Alabama vs Louisville - Camping World Stadium, Orlando, FL

That 2000 game against UCLA taught Alabama something
The program is already built again so why not play someone on the road

Alabama cancelled a 2016/17 home and home with Michigam State a few years ago. Here is what Coach Saban said the reason was...

quote:

“For business reasons, we have played neutral-site games to start the season,” Saban said, according to the Lansing State Journal. “And when you play a home-and-home – which we played Penn State home-and-home a few years ago — when you play at home you do really well (financially), when you play away you don’t do very well. When you play a neutral-site (game), you do very well every year.

“We wanted to try to play the series, instead of home-and-home, at neutral sites. And we had other opportunities to play other teams at neutral sites. So from a business perspective, our administration chose to do that. It was certainly nothing personal. And not that it wouldn’t have been a great series, I think it would have been.”

quote:

Alabama has opened the season with a neutral-site game against another FBS team every year since 2011, including Wisconsin earlier this year.

It’s not as if Bama is avoiding strong competition. Instead of facing Michigan State, the Tide will play USC at AT&T Stadium (Arlington, Texas) to open 2016 and Florida State in the remade Georgia Dome (Atlanta) at the start of 2017.

Like Florida

?

We probably do it more than a lot of the major college football schools because we still play Miami every few years. Next year we play Michigan and FSU. Then in 2019 we play Miami and FSU.

Never said it didn't. Just pointing out they were worse than all non P5s at stopping the run. 19 spots worse than USCe.

I'm sure when they scheduled that game they had no idea that would be the case, so what point are you trying to make here? Texas Tech had some decent defenses just 2-3 years earlier....

SECE conference schedules are EASIER than SECW conference schedules. Been that way for several years. And UGA playing Georgia Tech every year just isn't that impressive. Playing Fla State or Clemson annually is more impressive.

I remember in 1978 when we played Nebraska, Missouri, USC, and Washington all within a month and some change of each other. Bryant loved to schedule multiple OOC teams.
