After seasons of 6-5-1 and 6-5 Bryant was thought to be washed up. Coach Bryant chose to go to Texas and learn the wishbone from the guy that created it. This is how the story goes.

quote:

In 1971, Bryant began engineering a comeback to prove that he still had it. This included abandoning Alabama's old power offense for the newly fashionable wishbone formation. (Darrell Royal, the University of Texas at Austin football coach who invented the wishbone, taught Bryant its basics, but Bryant developed successful variations of the wishbone that even Royal had never used.) The change helped make the remainder of the decade a successful one for the Crimson Tide.

Sound familiar?

Les would rather be fired than change his offense

Same thing they said about Bryant. Also Ironic that he started slipping in his 11 year at Alabama. They wanted to run him out of town and then came the 70's. We owned the entire decade of college football.

Les is an elite recruiter who has won a natty, played for a second natty, won 2 SECC's and a lot of big bowl games. Firing him would be worse than Texas firing Mack or UT firing Fat Fulmer. They literally could be worse for the next decade if they let Miles go. Of course there's a small chance they hit a home run, but the truth is there is only one Nick Saban and one Urban Meyer out there, and neither are heading to Red Stick.

LSU fans have already made up their minds. They want to see their school drop $30mill and win fewer games. You can't argue with that brand of logic.

So Les should start running the option?

I doubt Bama fans were hitting the message boards in 1971 ad nauseum, whining and bitching about every damn thing Bear Bryant ever did.

Maybe he will go learn the Big 12 offense. They all pretty much run the same thing

They bitched on the call in shows. He basically told the fans one Sunday during the Coach Bryant Show that he didn't give a damn what they thought and he didn't care if they came to the games. He said, we will play Saturday if the stadium is empty and we will be trying to win.

There are many similarities between Miles and Coach Bryant. I catch hell on here for making those comparisons but its true. Miles has more character but they are similar in how they coach. Les Miles is a damn good football coach he just needs to stop being so stubborn and change his offense and LSU will be right back in the thick of it all.

I actually heard this story the other day when I was talking football with my Dad. I wasn't around during the Bear days so I didn't know much about the details of their success.

He said Bryant's willingness to adapt to the players he had was what made him one of the best.

Sorry guys, Les aka Saban's bitch, is gone. No more automatic wins. Now if we would put 15 million into recruiting aka paying players too we would have a competitive series again. Yall need to turn your attention to keeping Satan as your master. It will cost u at least an extra 5 million a year as Texas is offering 100 million per 5 year deal out the gate when Strong leaves.

I am hoping it comes out of your "recruiting" budget.......

Bryant also said on his show that the committee who would decide when he quit coaching would be composed of himself and Mary Harmon (his wife) and that was the way it was. If others didn't like it, tough. He wasn't quitting and no one could fire him.

In other words, STFU and sit down.

1) lsu won't admit it, but bama is their biggest game, and they've lost 5 straight ...
2) bear had won/shared 3 national titles and 5 sec titles that were not perceived by some to have been built on the previous coach, in addition to an undefeated season that won no national title ... he had more capital built up, though many fans still wanted him gone ...
3) bama did not lose 3 straight during those 2 years ...
4) bama's made coaching changes for less reasons than lsu's ...

lsu is completely warranted imo in wanting to part ways with less ... they, like everyone else, and bama when saban retires, want a 'home run' hire that doesn't exist (outside of fisher), but they will have to accept the risk, like bama and everyone else, of someone who is not a home run hire ...

This is about Miles getting fired, not anything about Saban.
