Bama was one of college football's historic powers before Saban and will be after Saban, too. That said, Bama won't win at this current rate because no one else has in over 50 years. It's atypical. Bama will still be a top program and a draw for top recruits.

Not trying to be a dick, but it's in 'Bama's favor that there are no more Bear's boys to reach for. That hurt them for a long time, save for a solid run in the early to mid 90s with Stallings.

They'll open the checkbook. Maybe they get a great one. Maybe they get a bad one; but it won't be because they went searching for the next Perkins, Shula, or Dubose.

Agreed, this his historic. But, hopefully we have learned our lesson. No more project coaches. No more NCAA. No more DuBose, Franchione, Shula types.

Go out and get the best head coach you can afford and we'll win and win big consistently. Not like this era, but certainly better than Curry/Dubose type teams.

We kind of got lucky with Stallings. He was a .500 coach when he came to Bama.

Bama will probably make a good hire. A lot will depend on who is available or if someone like Smart is ready to take over.

Being able to pay a lot is not everything and the best coaches probably already have great jobs making a huge amount that they would leverage into a raise and bama offering an extra million doesn't matter.

What is just as important though is the way saban has built the program. That will be there after he leaves, just like at LSU.

Biggest threat to bama staying really good is probation. Not a flame, but everyone knows lots of players are getting paid in various means and high schools are getting paid as well (like Albert Mean's HS coaches did) so the biggest threat for a program like bama for the foreseeable future is hard core probation.

If Smart is still around, I think they'll give him the chance to keep the "process" going as well as can be done. If that doesn't work out, they'll go out and throw a ton of money at the best available coach. Hopefully we've learned our lesson on going after mediocre coached with Bama ties.

To any program that already has everything in place I should say (facilities, boosters, fans, money, etc).

I would be furious. Bama better hire a good coach when Saban retires.

0% chance of that happening. Kirby will have to go prove himself elsewhere first.

First off, that is a flame. And I have yet to see anyone outside of some conspiracy nuts on auburn boards make any claims that Saban is committing major violations. There has yet to be any major media outlet make any type of accusations of major rules violations against Saban's program.

If the timing is right, Alabama will hire Chip Kelly just to troll the rest of the SEC with some HUNH.

Saban seems to think that Kirby could handling it. But since Saban will probably stick around another 8-10 years, there is plenty of time to go somewhere to prove himself.

Smart would be the only coach now that might make recruits think that they are going to keep on winning without missing a beat. Recruiting is what has bama winning and there really isn't a coach right now that people think is on the same level as Saban. It maybe better to go with an unknown than someone who people will compare and say isn't as good as Saban.

I disagree. Kirby would be a smooth transition. I also think Dabo Swinney would be an option if he continues the success. What about Chris Petersen?

No.

No Bama ties considered. Whoever is the best name coach will get an offer.

He would have to have a great DC, that would be awesome.
