Agree. I like seeing us play interesting programs, even if they suck.

If kids aren't fans of college football at college age, then forget it. They don't need another venue to party, hell, there's too many of those anyway. Each school should gauge their student ticket allotment by the #s from the previous few years, and sell any overage however they see fit.

Student sections will be full for any somewhat big game, but let's get real. No one want to go to a game where your team wins by 40 and the back ups play the entire second half.

I don't understand those complaining about alcohol, did you guys really have that much trouble sneaking in booze? I always had plenty to last me the whole game.

Beer in the stadiums.

Most students don't turn 21 until the spring of their junior year or summer before their senior year. Only seniors and a small number of juniors would be able to buy beer at the games, so that wouldn't really solve the issue.

Students will always be sneaking in booze.

Exactly. I was never a big drinker, but I was always able to bring some minis in.

Really? The Kyle Field scoreboard has a score ticker that runs constantly all game. You never have to wait more than 2-3 minutes to find out the score of a game.

BDS shows scores, but they are rarely up to date.

shite, I snuck in a 10 ounce flask of Makers every game either in my back pocket or in my boots once the temperature dropped.

They don't check you for shite at Kyle, though. You can sneak in pretty much anything you want that can fit in your pockets.

As long as you don't dress like you're Greek, they won't give you a second look at BDS.

You would be a terrible marketer.

Yeah, dressing like a frat douche is always a bad idea. The stadium cops follow you like a hawk, but A&M also doesn't have nearly as many of them as most SEC schools.

We have a score ticker as well - the fools just can't update for whatever reason. They "may" change the scores every 20-30 minutes on the ticker. I bet half-time lines and I can't rely on the BDS ticker to accurate scores or time left in the games.

It's just a pet peeve of mine - I still attend every Bama home game and do the tailgating, etc.

I think an official tailgate package is dumb. If you have to bribe students to come with generic megafan packages its too late. The crop is ruined.

I think the answer is a "future student" section. Sell packages where verified alumni with young kids (under 12) can get four or five seats (in the crappiest part of the stadium) for face value with no donations or any of that. Throw in a few t-shirts for the kids, a picture booth out in front of the stadium, maybe even some sort of annual event where the kids can get autographs from the players.

Heck the top of the Zone is already basically a kids zone the games I have gone to, just make it official. And those parents really seemed to appreciate getting to go to an event with their kids- the only rampant cell phone use I see is picture taking.

Oh and as a bonus, the parents and kids don't care as much if the game is a rent-a-win unlike the spoiled students that only show up in force for conference games. The kids don't know what is really going on anyway and the parents are just happy to be at a kid friendly event that isn't cartoons skating on ice so the quality of football is irrelevant. Maybe even work around that- sell ticket packages that only include the non-marquee home games that year.

Building a future fanbase is the key to the future of college football. Just like Apple and Microsoft practically give away their products to schools to get kids hooked for adulthood, good memories are the most solid path to fandom.

Then when they are grown they will build their own megafan tailgate event because they are emotionally tied to the games.

Seems to work in Morgantown, WV.

WVU's attendance has blown the last few years, and it actually dropped the year they moved into the Big 12.

WVU Sees Financial Gains In Its Move To The Big 12 Conference

quote:

In moving to the Big 12 in 2012, WVU saw its beer sales revenue increase. Still sharing a 50-50 split with its concessionaire for beer sales revenue, WVU earned $632,694.58 from beer sales in 2012. What’s notable about this, is that WVU’s football attendance in 2012 was actually lower than in 2011, by an average of just under 8,000 fans per game. Yet, fans were spending more on beer in 2012 than they were in 2011.
