It doesn't help that the ticket prices have skyrocketed over the past 15 years. It's not affordable to take a family anymore so the little kids don't grow up being used to attending football games. It's easy for a family of 4 to drop a grand on a game by the time you account for parking, food, tickets, and fuel. To ask this 7-8 times a season from a middle class family is not realistic. The ticket prices have topped out and that is causing the attendance problems.

Never heard of Tailgate Guys until now. Really cool idea. I get what you're saying, because it will draw people to the campus/tailgate scene more, but I'm not sure a young grad will pay that kind of money when they can just buy beer and stay home.
It's dirt cheap if you get a group of 15 or 20.

uh, how many people are there on waiting lists to get season tickets to sec teams? if the game itself isnt enough of a draw for the students to show and stay. then sell those tickets to the people that dont have to be coddled and begged. if you're having to devise ways to keep kids interested, then they have zero appreciation for what they have. so cut them loose. dont expect them to be the driving force in ten years, if they have no appreciation while their there. the 'give me generation' whose toughest job is to pitch a bigger fit, to get what they want. is not the future of fandom. besides, 20 years from now, football will be nothing more than a pleasant memory. the people that want to kill it aren't going away. they're filing lawsuits, that will bring about the demise of football.

Take away their tickets and never let them get them back.
This is so frickin stupid and is typical of this generation. We are having to pander to and find ways to entertain college kids at a got damn football game? Frick that. Get drunk, go to the game, cheer for your team, leave the stadium. That's it. Anyone complaining that there's not enough to do or the games aren't fun enough doesn't deserve to be there anyway.

There is no magic here. When you're playing Alabama A&M at noon, hungover students aren't coming. I don't think many places are having many problems with students in big SEC games.
The wifi thing is crazy. Cell reception is a problem when in town for the game, but it's a sad state of affairs if kids aren't coming to football games because they can't access facebook.

Yep. Just like I don't want to pay for $75 a seat each game when 3-4 games are against garbage opponents.
They need to bring back the rule that games against FCS teams only count for bowl eligibility once in 2 years. Of course this would mean fewer bowl eligible teams and less money so they would never agree to this, so the garbage opponents are inevitable.

There's 11-12 minutes of actual gameplay packed into a 3.5-4 hour time slot. What they need to do is take fewer commercial breaks.

Nothing. If they are not interested, there are plenty of young alumni that cannot afford the high donation costs that would love to take the seats.
AU has implemented a new program for young alums to donate at half price to get tickets if they are less than three years out of college. They would def go to every game and stay the whole time.

I don't blame SEC programs for not padding their already difficult schedules with difficult OOC teams, but it obviously results in unfilled stadiums. Not sure there is a solution to that.
To some extent, it should hurt schools like Auburn the most (not sure it does), simply because we have a large stadium and a relatively small fan base (compared to UGA, UF, Bama). There are enough Bama fans that they'll trip over themselves to get tickets to see the Tahd play themselves in a scrimmage, but some of us don't have that. Again, I don't think AU has a serious problem with that because we're a cult, but those are the type of schools I think are most disadvantaged.

Sell beer in games. I know plenty of people that would tailgate all day and then watch the game in a bar to keep drinking

They need to shrink the amount of teams in the FBS and only allow schools to play teams from their own division or the game won't count toward bowl eligibility.

I'd like to see a rule where teams either cannot play FCS schools or they get on regonition of the win. Yes, it would make the schedules harder bec temas would be forced to play better schools but there would be better games.

I've quit going to any games where we play a cupcake like Georgia State or Chattanooga.

those are good for parents with little kids.
But the schools could schedule Maryland and Wyoming instead.

I would probably skip the Wyoming game, but I would go see us play Maryland.

Here is the problem. Students know they can get tickets and get them cheap the whole time they are in school. So there is no real demand from them. They can go next week or next year. Take that away from them and they will be more apt to go and stay longer.
General admission tickets are not cheap and are in high demand(for the right price). Get drastic...take away half the student tickets one year and see what happens.

Some schools are trying to run more plays to remedy this. Some schools are trying to stop them.

If you are willing to miss kickoff, you can get tickets to every game for cheap.

I know a few who do that all the time.
