I don't know if it's so much sidewalk as it is the characteristics some display. The disappearing act when things aren't going well then the polar opposite of Lil Mikey having a sugar rush when things go well. I personally can't stand that but it's a free country, to each his own.

This thread will spout up at least 5 more times before this season is over.

, probably. Depending how things goes for teams. I'll say one thing, there may be one fanbase that shouldn't be accused...the Hogs. They really don't care what the current reality is, they're going to paste somebody...Gawd bless em...if all fanbases were that staunch.

You are correct. Graduate schools are where major universities truly make their reputation. You can still get in to both of those for an undergrad or pre-law or pre-med, but it does improve your chances to be selected to graduate programs at those schools if you attend there for your undergrad.

You're misinformed. Often, the opposite is true.

The only thing worse than Updyke-type sidewalks are the people who believe attending some middle of the road mega state university with a football team makes you any better than the people who went elsewhere for college.

This is a good point.

I experienced a HUGE number of t-shirt Texas fans when I lived in Dallas. Most of them went to North Texas or University of Phoenix.

I like our sidewalk fans, but there is a difference. That being said, I'd guess the overwhelming majority of our t-shirt fans who didn't go to Arkansas have an immediate family member who did, at least for a few semesters.

I have a brother who never attended Arkansas, and I consider him a big fan. I don't think he fully gets it like an alum does, though. That's just my view and I know it pisses some people off.

What is there to get? It's the same sport you've played/watched since you was a kid....

That you don't think of the school much further than how the football team is doing.

If you don't have sidewalk fans, your program is probably shitty

Generally speaking, I'd have to say Ohio State, although any team that has a couple of really good seasons will come on strong.

I must admit....i am a sidewalk fan. I don't know if i am pathetic ....since i went
to a private university (undergrad)in GA who didn't have a football team.

Look, I grew up in Alabama (Dothan)...and as a small kid-- i became a fan. Even though i got my grad degree
from UGA (during the Shula years )...i am still a bama fan. Give me a little credit...i could have switched....
but Alabama is the team i grew up loving as a kid...and it's hard to change what's in your heart....

I do understand your quote above though...i will never be fully immersed in the idiosyncracies/culture of
the university b/c i did not attend there. However, i think a majority of alumnus probably don't think much of
the school past the success of the football team either. No?
