Playing over their head? How? We have two legit starters and our bats are just clutch as frick.

My best guess is that no SEC team will be in Omaha this year. But, if I HAD to put one there, I would guess UF first then LSU.

Auburn #5 in the nation and you have the #4 in the SEC.

If it makes you feel any better, Auburn is #6 in the SEC in RPI

I'd say Florida first

I would too but they're going to have to start hitting if they plan on making a run.

Lsu would have to get real hot to make it to Omaha. U.K., Auburn, and Tamu have the best potential.

They should be #1-#3 honestly given their talent. So many bad bats this year - and now they lose Schmidt? Close the door the Cocks I'm afraid. Plus let's be real, even if they win a Regional - you know the NCAA will match them up with Clemson for the Supers and Clemson will crush them.

1. Clemson has a better chance of crushing an empty tin can than the Yardcocks in the Supers.

2. But, but most importantly, kick Chad fricking Holbrook to the curb without his personal belongings. He can, however, take his butt buddy Ray Tanner with him. Ray needs to nut up and admit handing over an elite team to someone who might be able to coach a high school baseball program to a fricking retard was just a "good ol' boy" move to someone who just was in no way, shape or form ready for a position of that magnitude.

Not sure how they're so good but they are.

We have an ERA of sub 2 in conference over the last 16 games.

Auburn is so fun to watch - gotta admit they're playing a bit over their heads all year. I honest to God will cheer for them over most anyone else - just gonna be tough for them to get to Omaha.

At this point in the season, you are what you are....Auburn isn't "playing over their heads" anymore. They have 2 elite aces that are both well rested and healthy, and a bullpen that has found their roles. Then we've completely revamped the lineup and put a premium on hitting.......

Moving Jeremy Johnson into LF, Bo Decker being back in RF, Joshua Anthony starting to hit like he was supposed to, and then Davis and Ingram providing power.....all on top of Jonah Todd as the trend setter.

We don't have a ton of HR power but we can put up crooked numbers any time. We also run up pitch counts as well as any team I've watched all year, so we're usually deep into other teams' bullpens all weekend.

I still don't get that. Our OOC wasn't strong at all, really, with just games with GTech to really speak of, but we've been fantastic in conference.

I didn't mean the "playing over their heads" as an insult to be clear - just saying overall, Auburn's talent in the bottom part of the SEC (and ACC & Big 12) yet they're among the leaders. Great coaching (plus a few really elite arms) and winning as a TEAM.

You sir, have my respect. To be a Bama fan with such insight to baseball has to be tortuous.

Excellent analysis and here's to hoping Bama gets it together for fans like you

auburn has the best chance. Mississippi state if the bats get hot might can get there... lately the bats have cooled off tho. arky and kentucky's chances are about the same as msstate. Florida sucks.

well, for starters, you've only played 3 OOC games away from home, @ Kennesaw St @ Samford and @ Ga Tech (in ATL). Right now, your road series are @ UGA, @ UT, @ State and @A&M. So 2/4 road series have come against 2/3 worst teams in the SEC and you'll also play a 3 game series against the worst SEC team this weekend. The RPI has placed an increased emphasis on road games, and Auburn just hasn't played many, and when they have they've been against terrible teams. And your OOC series have been against George Washington (#195), Holy Cross (#224), Lipscomb (#181), and Presbyterian (#175)

For comparison's sake, LSU has played OOC series against Maryland (#20), Army (#233), Wichita St (#149), and a round robin away from home against Baylor (#14), Texas Tech (#4), and TCU (#9). LSU has also played away from home in midweek games 4 times. In SEC games they've played @ Florida, @ Arkansas, @ Kentucky, and @ Alabama.

So you've got a discernible SOS difference between the two schools, yet Auburn has just 3 more wins. They have more quality wins for sure, but LSU's SOS is about 30 and Auburn about 60, so that's why a team like LSU (and others) are ahead of Auburn in the RPI.

And fwiw, Warren Nolan is predicting Auburn drops 6-8 spots even if they sweep Alabama this weekend. If they don't sweep, Auburn is projected to be in the mid 30s in RPI

Should have never gave you shite over wanting that last year. Anything would probably be better than what Goff has done.

Don't concern yourself with out vs in conference.

It's just a formula. Sure it's a little complicated, but its math.

Winning % * .25 + Opponents Win % * .50 + Opponents Oppoenets Win % *.25

You weight your own record with .7 for home wins, 1.3 for home losses, 1.3 for road wins, and .7 for road losses.

It is too hard for the avg person to find the last part of the information, but the first two can be easily found. I'll compare Auburn & Florida. Almost identical records yet UF is much much higher.

Auburn
Home Record: 21-9
Neutral Record: 1-0
Road Record:10-5

Auburn Record with the weights: 28.7-15.2 for a 65.38 win%

Florida
Home Record: 21-6
Neutral Record: 1-0
Road Record:10-7

Florida Record with the weights: 28.7-12.7 for a 69.32 win%

Auburn SOS: 57.26%

Florida SOS: 59.43%

Auburn: .6538 * .25 + .5726 * .5 = .44974
Florida: .6932 * .25 + .5943 * .5 = .47046

UF is up .02072 by looking at 3/4s of the information.

Now class is adjourned. Be ready for the quiz on Monday.

RPI is bullshite. Heading into this weekend AU has played 1 game against the RPI 200. Arkansas is 9-0 against RPI 200 or worse and lost the series to AU and they are still ahead of AU? Only one other team (UF) has played 1 or fewer RPI 200 teams in the SEC (AU swept UF if I remember correctly). Its pretty crazy that going into the Bama series AU knows the RPI is going down no matter what happens. Even if we win 2/3 against Bama and are still most likely tied for first in SEC our RPI would suggest we are a bubble team. AU's OOC schedule was not bad enough to be hurting the RPI the way it is at the moment.
