On an unrelated note its a crying shame there isn't a major bowl game in Vegas

We get all the basketball tournaments, and it's not a bad bowl game.

They proposed a new domed stadium on campus at UNLV today, that will get a decent bowl game.

Man, I heard that.
Vegas is the perfect location for anything and everything (except maybe the Winter Olympics).
Those folks know how to host an event.

Now that you newbs are in the SEC where exactly is the geographic center of the conference? I know if used to be in Alabama, but I doubt that's justifiable anymore.

It's still in Alabama, in Marion County, to be precise.

Approximately 70 miles NW of Hoover. Tuscaloosa is just a hair closer to it than Starkville.

That's based on using the long/lat coordinates for the 14 SEC cities (converted to decimals), then taking the average of the longitude and latitude figures, and finding where that average puts you on the map.

I have it as 34.106 -87.661 (rounding to 3 decimal points to save a little time)

Geographic center of SEC

Looks like there'd be lots of room for RV parking across the road.

What about Little Rock? Memphis is better, but at least LR>>>>Hoover.

The geographic center argument is bunk. If basketball and football championship games can be held in Atlanta, which is east of geo center, then baseball can be played in Memphis.

I watched a little bit of the TCU/West Virginia on TV today and there were literally about 200 fans in the Bricktown ballpark.

It's probably been pointed out already but Memphis makes the most sense from an attendance standpoint since 5 of the top 6 schools attendance wise are LSU, Arkansas, State, Ole Miss and A&M. All are relatively close to Memphis and could allow for great crowds from extremely loyal fanbases.

It should be in Memphis or maybe even Pearl but the SEC loves the RV excuse as a reason to give Alabama and/or Auburn one more home game going into the post season.

Yeah, Alabama and Auburn fans show up... when their teams make it (which isn't exactly a regular thing in recent years). Put the tournament in Memphis and LSU, Ole Miss, MSU, and Arkansas fans would break every attendance record the tournament has ever had.

Put it in Pearl and the attendance records would be shattered - Pearl is an easy drive for the 3 SEC fanbases that actually show up for the SEC tournament ever year because, really, does anyone care if it's an easy trip for Georgia's 3 fans?

Keep in mind that TD ameritrade is 3x the size of Hoover Met too...

Not sure where you got your picture but if that's 11,000 people in a 35,000 seat stadium then someone painted some bodies in the seats.

ETA- On the day, 10,424 fans came through the gates at TD Ameritrade Park to set a single-day attendance record. Entering the tournament, the overall tournament record for attendance was set in 2010 at Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, when 12,219 fans came for the entire event.
You are really trying too hard Goofer. We have had probably 8,000 per session over here with there being 2 sessions per day. At least be honest with your disdain without embellishing.

If we have to play this thing Memorial day weekend every year, I say do it in Pensacola. Easy drive for most, the others will fly. Beach and other activities. People will make it an annual thing. I have no desire to spend a weekend in Hoover. It's freaking stupid. SEC is so Bama-centric they make bad decisions.

Pensacola Wahoos, I assume, have a decent stadium.

8,000 paid. No way there have been 8,000 for any of the sessions this week.

First, It's Nebraska, the entire state is an RV park.

Second, It's Nebraska, there is nothing, I mean nothing to do or see other than Nub sports.

That's why they travel so well, if you lived in there you would travel to get away from the bleakness called nubland too!
