Reminding people about this is not a good idea. I have Auburn buddies going to the game this weekend. Please quit endangering them.

I work with what I see and read. On this board, I see no AU fans bitching/moaning about LSU "horror" stories. I do however see LSU fans referencing all the supposed injustices that have occurred to them in the past at the hands of AU/refs. So no, it is not beyond pot-and-kettle hypocrisy.

For years I have never known why this pisses off so many LSU fans, and I have a feeling I will never find out.

Nobody really cares why they did it. It was the image it created, which was interpreted by many LSU fans as disrespectful. As others have pointed out, as an isolated event, it would have been fairly quickly forgotten and insignificant. It is remembered and discussed as part of the lore in a series of odd or unusual things that have occurred as a part of the LSU/Auburn history. It really isn't that big of deal by itself. People bring it up mostly for the fun because it is simply part of the mystique of the series, along with the Earthquake Game, The Cigar Game, the Barn Burner Game, the missed field goals, the stomping on the logo, the second the last pass, the band/kicker incident, etc.
I was never particularly upset by the original incident. I thought at the time it was somewhat disrespectful, again whatever the reason, but not a big deal. But it is in the context of the history of the series fun to include as one of those "moments" that add to the rivalry.

It really explains it pretty well.
As far as the phrase "so many LSU fans" - do you even KNOW how many LSU alumni and fans there are on this planet.
Even if it pisses off a few hundred people on the rant, it is still a micrsoscopic percentage of the total fan base.

Check out the thread that was linked on here a couple of days ago. I think it was entitled Beware of Tiger Stadium or something like that. It was a thread from an Auburn board in response to an Auburn fan's request for tips and advice in making his first trip to Tiger Stadium. There's comedy gold all through it. And yes, every bit of it is pure overblown bullshite. And y'all do it every other year.

THis. This thread has hit the nail on the head. Can dish it but can't take it.
Example. Co-worker of mine from BTR, good guy but LSU to the bone and does the famous transformation from upstanding, responsible man until Saturday when he become another LSU fan. We go to the LSU Bama game and he is just giving Bama fans the business. One of the tailgating buddies tells him to cool it and he says it all in fun which is the typical response.
The next season, I invite him to Ttown. He says is there anywhere we can tailgate kind of away from everybody. Then says look, I don't want any food or drink from anybody, I just want to be left alone and not be harassed tailgating or going to the stadium. As we walked to the stadium my friend got a LSwho? and he wanted to fight right there. One year after we couldn't get him to shut up with his taunting.
A few, few AU players walked right outside the dressing room to take a picture and not smoke inside and the whole world of disrespect came tumbling down. These are the same LSU fans who probably tiger baited, name called and threw stuff at AU fans before the game.
Do not say anything to them but just take their insults in stride and don't say anything back is the mantra.

Losing is bad enough by itself but to have it rubbed in your face the way Tubs did it to LSU and Bama makes it much worse and can easily bring hatred. I hate Tommy Tuberville and that motherfricker only needed a Bama that isn't playing with a half of a deck and coach that was experienced and capable at recruiting to boot his arse on down the line. frick Tubs and frick all the barners with their cigars and fingers.
