I usually ignore the roll tide contingent. They are just looking for attention. Occasionally, I'll engage them and most of the time those folks worth engaging are fine.
I have never said go gators to an Alabama fan or any other random fan really. That's just dumb in my opinion.

The proper response to either is "Roll Tide!"
Roll Tide has many meanings and can mean anything from hello to good luck. The exception is when it is in reply to "War Eagle." Then it means FU.
