re: What is a national title in basketball worth to you?

Rankings for me:


1: MNC
2: Basketball NC (Haven't had one)
3: Baseball NC (Had a lot)
4: SECC
5: BCS bowl victory


Below those things, the rest don't really light any fires for me.

I'm way more of a football fan but I'd take a NC in basketball any day over an SECC in football.

Few things are more exciting than watching your team go deep in the tournament. Granted, I've got limited experience with that but when Bama knocked off Stanford and Syracuse to go to the elite 8, it was freaking awesome.

I will say this (for me):

I would give up 5 basketball titles for 1 football title. OSU has won them in both, and they have a good history in both sports

However, I think winning a national title in B-ball is above almost everything outside of winning a NC in football

I believe a Basketball title hold more worth than a football title. Reason is Basketball has always been won on the court in a tournement of the best teams.
The Football title until recent history was a popularity contest decided by polls. Many years had co-champs & split titles as well.

The history of the NCAA basketball tourney is absolutely replete with stories of the best team getting upset before winning the title. Single elimination tournaments have their own significant issues. And, one could argue, there can even be cases where they have problems that polls/bowl games suffer in less abundance, such as the chance that the best team never even sniffs a shot at the title. If you match the 1 vs 2 team, people can argue endlessly about whether 3 or 4 deserved the shot. But if an unranked team makes the Final Four because they got hot, that same argument is magnified to a huge degree because they're clearly not one of the "four best teams" over the long term. They're there, in fact, because the NCAA decided to start including lots of teams that were intended to be easy first and second round games for the best teams, so the tournament isn't quite as clear-cut as you make it sound.

And until the 70s (and, more to the point, the 80s, when the field expanded further) the tourney was limited to just the conference champions, leaving out vast swathes of teams that could have legitimately played for the title. So they left out the winners of the Missouri Valley Conference, but also left out some damned good teams that lost their conference tournament final.

I would take a national championship in Basketball any day of the week. UGA has never won in Basketball.
