Good question. At what point do the championships UGA won start to be completely irrelevant? It seems like they are already and they have the weakest claim to "Big 6" membership.
Meh, UGA's mediocrity under Richt keeps them slightly ahead of Tenner's collapse post Fulmer.

But what happened? Once such a proud program like Tulane, Sewannee and........Georgia Tech.

Ya know what though? Auburn went FIFTY THREE years between national titles. We're currently sitting at only 34 years, so realistically there are people that have yet to even be born that could come into this world and then go on to play for UGA before we even get to the drought that AU went through between titles. Talk about a decline...

It really is impressive.
Georgia might be the most underachieving tier 1 program of the last 30+ years. The last time they competed for a national title was in 1982, when Penn State beat them in the Sugar Bowl to win it all. Their in-state rival, Georgia Tech, has had a national championship more recently than UGA (1990 vs. 1980). And they have only won 2 conference titles since Herschel Walker left in 1982. And we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their last conference title this year.

I guess my question applies to Tennessee as well. When does it become "big 4"? How long can they ride their ancient championships before they sound like aggy and our 1939 MNC?

Dude...Tennessee's last national championship was in 1998. I doubt anyone on this board was even alive in 1939.

Shut up Gump. We all remember your recent drought. Louisiana-Monroe is STILL laughing.

The big 6 will only change format when some other scrub finally wins the SEC. We have 12 SEC titles, UT has 13, bama has 20something. Maybe if aTm gets to where they're competing for better than 2nd in their division on a yearly basis they might compete for big 6 status in 40 years or so.

So your big insult is Auburn is within 1 or 2 championships of every team except Florida since 1990? Not exactly the same as every other member of the supposed big 6 having 3 times as many championships as Georgia since the date mentioned in the op
Posted on 5/3/15 at 3:41 pm to Mister Tee
Move your arbitrary date back 3 years and you add 3 UGA titles. Move it to 1970 and you would add 9 Bama titles. Prior to 1983 Auburn won 1 SEC title in its entire history as a charter member. How convenient that your arbitrary date starts, my gosh, the year Auburn began winning.

UT has 4 winning seasons in the last 10 & one 10 win season with no BCS Bowls & only 5 bowl games & only 2 top-25 finishes & no Top 10 finishes.
UGA has 9 winning seasons in the last 10 & six 10 win seasons along with 1 SEC championship & 2 BCS bowls & 10 bowl games & 7 top-25 rankings & 5 Top 10 rankings...
UGA has won 2 SECC's since UT's last 1 in '98...

So should I just pick an arbitrary year and just base my entire insecure claims off of skewed stats?

I get that, which is why I started with uga. 1982 was a long time ago. Are they really big 6? UT-Austin, Nevraska, and the military academies all ran CFB in the olden days, but none are considered good programs these days.
Dinosaurs die, is what I'm saying. Putting up their decaying bones in a "Big 6" museum is only delaying the inevitable

The date is completely arbitrary and designed to cut off 3 UGA titles. You can make dates work any way you want.

and what a convenient date it is, no? If you were to go back 3 more years we'd have 3 more SEC championships. But I'm sure that was just picked at random..
