Yeah, I've notice how well he's been doing.

There is zero chance that Derek Dooley isn't on the list. He's not only on the list, he's #1. Derek Dooley was the worst head coach to ever roam a SEC sideline. He was the worst hire any major program has made since football became big business. For some reason, UT thought that hiring a guy who didn't even have a winning record at the lower levels of football would equate to big winning in the SEC. They were wrong. As a reward, Dooley made UT the absolute worst program in the SEC his final two years. Think about that again. Tennessee, for the last two years, has been the absolute worst program in the SEC. They have 2 conference victories in the last 2 years. No team has fewer. The only teams tied with them are Kentucky, who also had two victories and split games with UT, and Missouri, who only played in the SEC for one of those seasons. Derek Dooley was just absolutely awful. He buried the UT program far enough that I think it'll take more than one coach cycle to bring it back.

What he said. Here is all the proof you need

I'm always fascinated why Tennessee Fans cannot see how bad Kiffin was for their football program and heap all the blame on Dooley. UT hired a squeaky clean head coach when NO BODY ELSE would take the job after Kiffin ruin their football program. Why can't you guys see what everyone else can see?

Because we saw the little things that the rest of the country didn't. Read the article i put up in my last post.

This should also be measured in how a programmed was damaged from the tenure of the coach.

UK had 2 damaging hires

Bill Curry including the 94 1-10 team followed buy letting him coach a few more years. This was followed by Mumme and violations that crippled the team till the arrival of Brooks in 2003 and 3 years with totals of 9-25. Brooks righted a damaged program and took UK to 4 straight winning season and 4 straight bowl games. This was the perfect time for UK to swing for the fence like USC did with Holtz and then Spurrier. Instead they hired joker and this was the next 3 years:

6-7 (with Brooks leftovers)
5-7
2-10

That put a crater in the UK program of at least 4 years and possibly 6 just to get back to the level Brooks had it when he left.

I would say in the last decade of coaching hires Joker may have had the longest and most devastating effect.

I don't disagree with you, but the SEC is much tougher then it was before Fulmer was fired. Many of the things on the list in that article don't account for that. Still, Dooley probably does deserve to be on the list.

Lane kiffin was horrible but even worst was usc witnessing his work and Tenn and still thinking it would be a good idea to hire that clown to run their football program

Why fire the champ so fast champ? 5-19, awesome hire. Go back more than ten and I will fill the list with Bama coaches that won 10 games or SECC.

2010 is really the only thing keeping Chizik off this list. Really, you could say it was a bad hire that won the auction.

I don't think there's an easy top 3 to put. I'll give you a top 5.

1. Ed Orgeron - This one takes the cake. Random hire to begin with, recruited well, but never won above 4 games and always looked clueless.
2. Sylvester Croom - Had one good year (2007). Everything else was miserable.
3. Derek Dooley - Was hired despite a losing record at a no-name school. Hard to say whether he even really had a chance, given all the problems he inherited.
4. Mike Shula - 1-11 against Alabama's main rivals, and only had one winning season (10-2). However, like Dooley, it's hard to say if he ever had a chance considering the mess he walked in to.
5. Gene Chizik - "5-19. We want a leader, not a loser." What closes the gap between No. 1 and No. 5 for CGC is 2010 and winning the lottery with Cam Newton. Otherwise, piss poor results and the worst season in Auburn history make him the worst hire of the decade.

You can't put a coach who won a NC in the top 3 worst hires in the last decade. That doesn't mean he was a good hire, but it certainly isn't one of the worst.
