One principle embraced by many AD's and professional GM's is to question if the current staff can achieve the program's goal - if the answer is no, then replace the staff with one that is capable.

So what are the goals of the UGA program? To be competitive in the east? To win the SEC? To win the BCS?

1. To be competitive in the east.
1a. Ensure a perpetual Richt contract rollover.

1st Ga was awarded the easiest schedule ever. LSU, AU, Arky, and Bama have to play each other every year. Swap Ga and Ms State and State would win the East. Ga doesn't have to play those big Teams.
So they are given the East Championship. So their goal is to TRY to win the SECC game......The BCSNC game is not on their minds.......

To ensure that Richt remains a "Good Guy", regardless of football success.

I've been hard on UGA before, but this thread is fricking retarded.

Jesus, and coming from a Bama fan too. There is more to life than rooting on teenagers at the game of football.

LSU would know to have that as a goal....to play in the BCSNC game and has won it twice. But winning and preparing this year was not their goal.......

Why is this thread retarted, and what does my being an Alabama fan have to do with it?

I didn't flame anybody. It's an honest question. What are the goals for the Georgia program?

In my profession, participating in critical analysis is a daily occurrence. That's all I'm doing here. Grow up and get off your high horse.

Seems like a flame. The obvious answer for UGA's goals is to win a championship. I've been hard on Richt, but the guy has hired a great DC and has done a great job developing QBs and recruiting. I think he can meet their goals. He was 1 game away back in 02 and a vote away in 07.

well if you wanna play off like it wasn't a flame then the answer is basically what most the big 6 wants. idk what they can do right now other than what they are. firing bobo would be nice but McGarity refuses to meddle with coaching decisions and you can't fire richt at 10-4

You're the type of guy who likes to play things off instead of owning them.

It isn't a typo because the t and d are far enough apart on a Qwerty keyboard that you have to have meant to type a t. But, whatever.

Also, you played off that this wasn't a flame. You wanted the conversation to go towards UGA keeping Richt for no good reason and it didn't go that way, so now you're pretending to be dumb enough not to understand a major football program's goal is to win it all.

This is what I think of when I think of you now:

I can't say what Georgia fans expect. However, I believe all the 'big 6' teams should have the same expectations and that they all have the ability to live up to them.

You absolutely can fire Richt at 10-4. I don't understand that reasoning.

Look, the AD has to set the ultimate goal of the program. For the sake of argument, let's say that goal is to win the BCS. The next step is to ask the question: is the staff currently in place going to achieve that goal? If the answer is yes, then keep the staff. If the answer is no, then replace the staff.

Such action may not be popular, but it would be correct. If the guy in charge is not going to achieve the goal, then there is no point in retaining him. Dubose should have been fired even after winning the SEC in '99, and Shula should never have made it four seasons.

Getting rid of Solich was the right choice for Nebraska, even if hiring Callahan was not. The correctness of the decision to fire a staff cannot be confused with the correctness of the hiring of its replacement.
