Is Rye still there? Some of my most fun college stories are from rye.

It embarrasses me as an alum to have such a 'successful' bar in Athens by that name, cashing in on the reputation of another town with it's own identity, instead of cashing in on Athens' own identity.

Is that the place that used to be DT's? Under ground, smells like puke?

Yes.

It boggles my mind that some bars that are THE bar as a student can just fall by the wayside.

It was probably 10 years before my time so I never went there, but have just heard OF them, but bars like the G spot, the Sugar Bowl, Gator haters...those are classic fricking names for Athens bars. I don't know why something like that can't hang around.

I did my damndest to give business to Georgia Bar but I don't think it helped all that much.

I remember when Gator Haters opened, everyone laughed at it, it was the place for losers to hang out, so it was closed a few years later.

G-Spot, it was around for less than 3 years.

Sugar Bowl, never heard of it. Must not have been around very long.

Georgia Bar? Now we are talking. It was in business before I got to town in the 90's, and is still in business today.

I had a beer there after the Carolina game with one of Vandy's former tight ends.

Me and my buddy wanted a dive bar that wasn't infested by underclassmen. Somewhere to belly up to the bar or just head after class. We love Georgia so gave it a try and loved it. I remember it closed down for a while but good to hear it's back up. I still have a Georgia bar Tshirt I wear around the house.

Georgia Bar never closed down???? When did it ever close down? It's still there, dirty as ever, bloodkin and wsp still hang out there, I like to drop $2 of quarters in the jukebox on the way out and fill it up with bloodkin songs... pisses them right off.
