Thank you, I was trying to remember which one of our coaches did that.

Why the frick to you think Alabama's rival fans bashed Nick Saban for years because they said he was ruthless and "processed" players? Then they bashed him more for "over-signing" and giving medical red-shirts.

Hell, Gene Chizik had to change tack and claimed ALL Auburn football scholarships were 4 yrs guaranteed. He did this to help his recruiting in the face of Saban killing it on the recruiting trail.

Okay, so only Alabama did this. Good to know.

EDIT:
Guess two Bama fans downvoted me after the Bama fan said Bama did this.

Grow some brains, Bama fans.

Money and greed once again ruined another thing in the world.

Players have zero allegiance to the school they play for any more than the coaches do now.

I basically agree with you. They’re killing the golden goose.

I mean, too an extent, but there are objective judgments on skill and ability.

I’m certainly not the one to judge so (doesn’t stop me in Saturday’s) but some people can watch a player and know if he’s good or not.

Yeah, there's definitely grading in the sport.

But not like a kicker must be successful 80% of the time from inside 40yards to remain on scholarship kind of thing..

I remember him doing that. It was definitely a recruiting tool for the moms and against the uncertainty of remaining on the Bama roster.

Maybe so. But it also enabled Saban to get the elite players that weren’t afraid of working hard to maintain their scholarships. I’d probably loaf my arse off if I got a guaranteed four years.

Or a very good coach rebuilding a program?
Based on feedback from the boosters, I don't believe this is the case. Not sure they'll give him enough time to tear it down and build it back.

You are being obtuse about this for some reason.

No, Alabama wasn't the only program to cull guys and make room for better players. Auburn did the same when Gus was hired after Chizik made his sales pitch about 4 yr guaranteed scholarships. Chizik was pissing in the wind trying to do everything possible to bring in top recruits.

You admit you rarely follow college football and can't even name even one of your oline players? Yet you're on a message board challenging people to produce specific players & coaches that processed players.

I doubt elite players think that way. They are trying to get to the NFL.

A player or team could quit on a coach. But that doesn't really matter anymore either. NFL cares more about a player's 40 than their character.

I used to follow this sport religiously.

I don't remember players getting processed at Auburn under any coach.

Like I said, AU kept players on scholarship even after career ending injuries. Can you name any that were processed, and not ones that were released from the team after arrests?

What? Four years of playing high school football is an entire life of work now?

You sound like they've put in 20 years of work and study to be a college football player. Maybe you're trying too hard to make a point here.

Kind of a funny thing to say...

At the end of the day, the game is the same. Block, tackle, score, defend. Some the rules, ejected for targeting etc. need to go. I think replay is good for the game as well as it gets it as close to right as possible.

You just need a good coach who can recruit and develop talent and execute the game plan in all 3 phases. Hasn't changed that much.

There are a lot of malcontents in the portal. Let the free market sort it out. Who wants Nix and his daddy? Who wants Johnson and his daddy?

Roster management has become much more important. The difference is that you have the portal as a tool as well. You have to recruit your own team now too.

The game is the same, but the players are becoming more of hired employees at this point.

There's a reason people are fans of college football and not the NFL.

All this is making the two sports more similar. College football fans will lose excitement for the sport as time progresses.

You like twerking huh?

Did you notice I never brought up Auburn in this thread? Because it has nothing to do with Auburn, but the sport in general.

Come back with some intelligence and then post.

Honestly though, it's crazy. It's basically unrestricted free agency every year. What a shite show for the sport. Oh well.
