Yo CNB, why does it seem like USC isn't getting as much love? Maybe it is just me. I feel like yall can make an argument for the best team in the SEC.

Because we weren't supposed to be that good so it doesn't fit the media's preseason predictions.
Honestly I'm not sure
As long as we stay top 8, I don't really care about anything else. SEC title would be nice, but I'd rather go back to Omaha

But when SC, UF, and A&M will likely boast similar records and may have the edge in RPI. As unfair as it is, no way the SEC gets 1/2 of the national seeds.
That's somewhat accurate. If there are 3 SEC teams in the Top 5 for most polls at the end of the year, then they are pretty safe to get a National Seed. It's the SEC team(s) who is/are in the #6 to #8 who might get shafted in that situation.
Right now, SC is in the bubble for a National Seed b/c 3 SEC Teams are ranked above us in the Top8. We need to beat UF and aTm in the series, and IF that happens, we'll lock up a National Seed.

I think we're getting a lot of love. We recently dropped a series though that we should've won, but we're still not out of the Top8. The viewership and social media tracking of our games is still leading the SEC.

I think things will sort themselves out, but imagine a scenario where A&M wins 2/3 (or better) against everyone including USC, but USC beats Florida, and MSU rolls through their relatively easy remaining schedule. It's not likely to play out that way, but in that scenario, you'd have a hard time choosing among four SEC teams for 3 national seeds.

All these polls don;t have anything to do with what the committee decides.

Cruise control and you'll lose a national seed

State has a very nice resume, but there are plenty of chinks in the armor.
-200+ loss
-12-10 record vs top 50 which is worse than UF, UL, A&M, FSU, MIA, & NCST
-0-2 vs 51-100 which seems like a strangely low # of games.
-Non Con SOS - 179
-9 home losses already (SC-1, A&M-2, UF-3)
-41st in overall winning %

State feels too high to me as well -- but I don't see who I'd rank above us at the moment.
Running the SEC gauntlet this year is absolutely brutal.

They seemed pretty elite when I watched them this weekend in BR. Game 1 was really fun to watch. Every time LSU tried to make a comeback Moo U answered. That is what good teams do, especially on the road. Hope we get another shot at them in the SEC tournament.

Our Non-con schedule sucked but we tried. UCLA/USC/OU all worst that normal. Oregon was a top 10 team when we played them but turned out to be terrible. Also throw in South Alabama (33), Southern Miss (19), & OM (5) and it's not terrible.
Our current SOS is 4, Warren Nolan projects it to be 12 which is high enough to be a national seed host. Not sure where you got those home losses from?

So UF swept A&M who swept MSU who took 2/3 from UF. None of the 3 has played USC yet. Crazy at the top of the SEC and that is leaving out OM & Vandy.

And LSU. Of note, State doesn't play USC.

And not a championship between them
Absolutely true, but in the spirit of good sportsmanship we should be congratulating them on their accomplishments thus far. They are doing very well and representing our conference with aplomb. They have much to be proud of and I hope they are enjoying their current good fortune.
Well done Gators, Aggies and Bulldogs! Keep up the good work!
Really looking forward to the Gators and Aggies coming to Columbia ... just hoping that my Gamecocks are able to stand up to the test your clubs will be bringing to Founders Park.
May the best teams win - and that we all shake hands and say, "good game" afterwards, no matter the outcome! Remember, it's not about winning or losing but rather how you play the game.

Time will tell ... we've got Florida coming to our place this weekend and A&M coming in a few weeks so everything will come out in the wash.
We've had seasons like this in the past. It's always about catching fire at just the right time ... truth be known, it usually has a lot to do with slumping before the post season and then having a lot of depth in the bullpen.
I'm trying to remember how the 2010 season went for us but we started slow with a series loss to East Carolina, had our ups and downs, lost a series late in the season at Kentucky then lost a series at home to Florida who was ranked #1 in the country that year as well ... lost two straight in the SEC tourney but then we caught fire in the post season, had to go on the road and win our Super Regional at Coastal Carolina, catapulted us into Omaha where we promptly lost to Oklahoma but then we ran the table and won the National Championship. We didn't lose another post season tourney game in the NCAAs for three years after that until the 2012 national championship game.
This year's team reminds me of that 2009-10 team for some reason.
We'll see I guess. I dunno. Florida this weekend then at Kentucky ... there are some parallels to draw thus far. I'd rather we win both of those series.

And what does that have to do with this year's rankings?
Because you only used the poll that suited you. Also, we're #1 in the SEC right now, so hard to leave us out of a "big 3".

LSU, A&M, UF, SC, and Vandy all play at least 2 of the other 4 IIRC. So this situation simply can't shake out with all of you in the top 5.
