LSU should have extended him already and never let him get to the final year of his deal. Now they are going to get in a bidding war with A&M and possibly South Carolina over someone they could have locked up. Plus in the final year of his deal, they lose the leverage of his buyout and are left only with loyalty and the opportunity to coach what should be a Top 10 defense next season.

I think the hold up was because Chavis (or LSU-or both) wanted to see what Miles was going to do. I think Chavis is much closer to retiring than he is uprooting again. I think he'd still be the DC for the Vols if he had it his way. I mean, it's a fair statement to say he'd be making less than a lateral move going to aTm or SC, and he's never come across as the guy to leverage for more money, which I think you said earlier.

A couple of year's ago people were talking about the "arms race" with head coaches. Now it's coordinators. If Alabama wins the NC, Lane Kiffin will certainly proven that he's worth a helluva lot more than, for example, Will Muschamp. But Muschamp just got $1.6M from Auburn...more than double what Kiffin makes. So how much should Alabama raise Kiffin's salary? And it continues.

There will come a day when we see 10M head coaches, 3M coordinators, 110K seat stadiums, and then CFB falls off because our generation won't let their kids play football.

I don't know why LSU fans would even be upset if Chavis left, they want him fired everytime someone scores on LSU.

Random dumbass posts something on the Tiger Rant & "the entire fan base wants Chavis gone". Get real dude. Besides his lack of recruiting effort because of his demeanor and personality, he'll go down as the best DC ever at LSU

Actually, you guys are close to pulling Jackson, Phillips, and Amadi from this year's class... I think this one is starting to get debunked like "3rd and Chavis"

I never said he wasn't a good DC. And it's a lot more than one random dude.

5, 10, or even 20 people saying it means nothing on this site, There are THOUSANDS of LSU posters. When an idiot makes a thread saying Chavis should be fired he might have 2 people agree with him then 20 people saying he's an idiot. Guess what? This doesnt mean "LSU fans wanted him gone every time someone scores a TD against us"

Remember when Hog fans wanted Mike Anderson fired last year? How about all the Hog fans saying the same for Bielema right up until the LSU game?

see how this works?

I'm not discrediting Chief at all. I'm just saying he prefers a dark room watching film rather than being all over the country recruiting like Frank Wilson and Corey Raymond.

I'm certainly not an expert on everyone else's top recruiters, but Vol fans used to become very exasperated with Chavis and Cutcliffe about their lack of enthusiasm for recruiting.

'd take a step back and make sure the guy didn't make 1 bad judgement call with Chavis he's done pretty well for yall thus far

Nope. Hes fricking them over by taking 4-6 wrs in a recruiting class. You have to spread those numbers out to the defensive side of the ball. There is a huge flaw in recruitment. This isnt the big 12. If they had just an average d they would be so good. But they dont, they have a terrible one.

He takes the in homes for the big wigs. But im wondering if thats just what happens when you are a younger coach in college. You kind of got to be the one traveling around putting in your dues. Im sure chavis used to do that, 20 years ago.
