The so-called "Public Ivies" are the best value colleges in the world for in-state students.

Only problem is getting into those schools from in-state is just as about as hard as getting into actual Ivies.

See Northern VA kids at UVA, Michigan, Dallas/Houston kids at UT-Austin......even Atlanta kids at UGA and all state kids at UF.

Being full of racists probably does cloud learning. Too busy worried about all the brothers stealing your white women when you should be studying.

UF is competitive as frick, and it's ultimately going to kill the fan base as we know it.

Foreigners and SoFla kids who care more about the Heat than SEC football.

Georgia is almost the same way at this point.

I read an article a while back in the Post about how statistically it is harder for a kids from Fairfax County, VA to get into UVA than it was any other school in America due to the state's requirements regarding taking a certain number of kids from each district.

That's a big consideration for most, but thankfully some people go to college to pursue knowledge without regard to future riches. English teachers don't make much but they provide a great service to future generations. We need those kids that study astronomy and Latin and philosophy, even if they get a poor ROI imho.

Yea quite a few of those - Education, Communications, Specialists that work with mentally challenged, etc. Even nurses, who don't make nearly as much comparatively.

In the end it is impossible to judge overall schools. Individual school programs? Yes, absolutely. But a "school" as a whole is just kind of ridiculous to put a score on. Too many moving parts.

Yea, kids from Metro Atlanta who end up at UGA typically are also applying to UNC, Wake, etc with Alabama, Auburn, Clemson as backups.

It has been debated on this site before. When the acceptance rates are a major criteria for the rankings, then the population of average students who want to be part of the Football Programs success has to be considered.

1. If you're going to keep peddling this baseless hypothesis, you're gonna have to openly admit that Bama is Auburn's daddy when it comes to football. Because you can't have it both ways.

2. If you're going to keep peddling this baseless hypothesis, you're also going to have to provide some evidence to support it.

Hope this helps.

It's also worth noting that Florida, Missouri, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt are AAU members.

Three of those schools are not like the other.

Texas has a rule where the top 8% of each high school class get automatic enrollment.

Texas is a huge state with huge competitve high schools. Texas fills up first, then ATM. Texas Tech and others pick up everyone else.

Gov. Perry and others are trying to change this, and increase enrollment at Texas and ATM. Keep kids from looking out of state(alot to the SEC) for college. I know alot of Texas people and they are adamantly against this for fear of watering down the vlaue of the degree, take it away from the "Public Ivy" stature.

I'm really not sure why people put so much stock in undergraduate rankings considering the fact that the graduate programs are what really separate the cream of the crop schools from the rest.

For example, UC Berkeley is only #20 (still very good, obviously) in undergraduate rankings (largely because it's a public school), but it's widely seen as being on the Harvard/Stanford/MIT/Columbia level for graduate programs. Those worldwide rankings posted a few posts up reflect the level of graduate programs.

This is such a stupid and short-sighted idea. If you more kids are attending as a result of lowered admission standards, then the value of a degree will be worthless

Yea - it is all very silly.

Ole Miss and Alabama have Top 15-20 national Accounting programs. They also have pretty standard economics/logistics/etc programs.

It's all about specifically what you pursue at the University.
