I think Baton Rouge offers the best mix. It's a major urban area that has a decidedly college
Lol. Baton Rouge has 230,000 inhabitants in an urban area a bit over 400,000 people. That's cute that you think it's a "major" urban area.

But after you're about 21 or 22 they are just way too boring. I'd shoot myself if I had to live in a place like Tuscaloosa or Auburn now.
Must be an age thing. At 40, the dream of being able to retire in T-town and watch Alabama play football and baseball sounds cool.

metro Baton Rouge probably has closer to 800,000 people

There really is no such thing as "metro" Baton Rouge. The only thing listed is a population of 800,000 within an area of 4,000 square miles and a population density of less than 200 per square mile. Lol at the thought of that being a metro area.

ive been to most schools in the SWAC, FAMU, Bethune Cookman, Albany State, Fort Valley, the AUC, & GA Tech.
I really enjoied Southern University's campus as well as Techs. Cookmans was great because its right near the beach, but I have to say my favorite campus was Alcorn State. Not a big city or a college town; its in the middle of the woods. I just like country shite

I like visiting college towns for away games, but I find it almost impossible. I refuse to do so anymore. It is just unconscionable what the local hotels do with their room rates. Oxford is by far the worst. $250.00 a night for a dirty arse room at a Days Inn? You're kidding me. So if you go to an Ole Miss game, you windup staying in Memphis or Tunica. At State, you wind up in Columbus. At Georgia, you stay in Atlanta. Defeats the purpose. That doesn't happen in Nashville, Lexington, Knoxville, Baton Rouge and Columbia,, S.C.

It depends on the college. I'm in Austin today. There are tons of restaurants and a big music scene near campus, but also lots of young pan handlers and old druggies that enjoyed the night life a bit too much. I wouldn't want my daughter attending school in an urban setting where I had to worry about non students wandering around the campus at night. While Georgia Tech is in mid town Atlanta, the campus is nicely separated from the city. I never saw too many thugs wandering around on campus. Maybe they were afraid of us. Usually it is the nerdy guys that go postal and shoot places up.
this is just ridiculous. austin is one of this country's best cities, and tech is about six blocks from the hood.

Knoxville has the best urban/college town feel.
I'm not saying it's the best place in the conference, but it strikes the perfect balance IMO.
