I can't believe he's getting 6 months for killing trees. I could kill my grandmother and get off easier than that.

Also, the Judge typically just imposes the sentence agreed upon between the DA and Defendant (although he technically isn't required to).

Intentional substantial destruction of plant or wildlife in a federally protected area carries a minimum 18 month prison sentence and varying fines. You can get up to ten year for especially heinous things like igniting fires.
