Treon Harris hasn't been with the team in months, and made the official move to WR a while ago - so he is now in a position to do way less damage to the offense than last year.

Felipe is at least a year away from being able to play in college. He is RAW.

The Qb situation is thus:

Expected starter:
Luke del Rio - former walkon at Alabama, transferred to Oregon state, and now at Florida- may now be on scholarship but I'm not sure. Clear starter right now.

Back up battle between grad transfer former Purdue QB Austin Appelby and 3* true Freshamn Kyle Trask.

The situation is clearly better than last year because Treon Harris won't be throwing the ball, but the situation isn't exactly awesome.

Unless of course you are a die hard Florida homer and you believe Del Rio is actually going to be really good and McElwain really is the QB whisperer...

I think Michigan is highly overrated due to ESPNs love fest with harb, and FSU did nothing last year to warrant a top 5 ranking this year. LSU is a fringe top 12 team and would beat both FSU and Michigan. OU has a backfield and QB that would put up 40+ on both FSU and Michigan.

Again, not disagreeing, but who is your top 10 then if FSU/Mich/LSU aren't in it?

I think for all the reasons you listed we will likely end up 10-2, maybe even 11-1 but I still don't think we will win the SEC Title game.

Will be a great year after what we've been through and establish our program back into the top 15 going forward under Butch.

And bad at home. A&M is worse home than away. Tennessee has no excuses this year. If they don't at least win the East, Butch needs to be fired.

I disagree that Tennessee is back in the top 15, I just think their schedule is complete shite and they will end up in the higher part of the rankings by default, especially if they start that high.

I mean, barring a complete meltdown, they should be at worst 5-2 after the first 7 games. The next 5 are laughers against 4 of the worst teams in the conference from last year plus Tennessee tech.

On this schedule, they will probably play half their games against teams with losing records, at least, and they will probably only face two teams all year that win 9 or more games.

If that is the resume of a top 15 team, so be it.

I agree with this, but will also say that UT won't fire Butch unless we have a 5-7 type season or worse, and even then maybe not. Because our AD doesn't know how to AD.

ESPN doesn't know who half the starters will be for most teams.

Northwestern had a good win over Stanford early in the year, but doesn't nearly have the same talent to stop the spread rushing attack Tennessee has.

Northwestern couldn't score on our 2s and 3s or stop our 2's and 3's from scoring. Evan Berry didn't get his kick off TD so he grabbed a 100 yard pick six playing with the 2s and 3s against their 1s. I don't think anybody is ranking us based on that game but rather based on the talent we have on the roster and the progress we've had every year. Last season, we met expectations but we also showed that we were painfully close to breaking through a year ahead of schedule. We should be able to move past that this year with a team full of juniors and key senior leaders.

Get in a time machine , go forward or backwards in time to 10 or 20 years and UGA will be ranked 12th or close to it everytime.

This is pretty much true.

In the past 25 years, Georgia has been ranked in the Preseason AP Poll in 19 of those years... 10 of those 19 times we began the year ranked between #10 and #15.

quote:

Either these pollsters are lazy and just put the bulldogs their on reputation alone

Not that.

Georgia's ranking in the Final AP Standings the past 10 seasons (2006-2015): #14
Georgia's ranking in the Final AP Standings the past 20 seasons (1996-2015): #9

What is halfway between 9 and 14?..... 12.

quote:

or UGA is just your average team not expected to do much but needed to be mentioned.

If you are always starting in the Top 12 then you are not your "typical average team." Teams that are "not expected to do much but need to be mentioned" start the year at #24 or #25... and in the past few years that seems to usually be Florida.

Florida started #22 in 2011
Florida started #23 in 2012
Florida started #10 in 2013
Florida started #27 in 2014 (Receiving Votes)
Florida started #36 in 2015 (Receiving Votes)

I would expect them to be ranked once again between #22 and #30 when this year's preseason AP is released.

Georgia typically starts in the Top 15 and we finish in the Top 15. We are all very well aware of UGA's lack of championships in the past few years, but that shouldn't sell Georgia short. We've been better than the "typical average team."

The A&M Theorem works like this: start off ranked at the bottom of the top 25 or just outside of it, beat an early opponent that is wildly over-rated, vault into the top 10, top 5 maybe, based only on that one win, get beat by a team that was always better and would've been favored had we not become overrated due to the early win, suffer a crises of confidence, and then implode for the rest of the season.

Don't be a chode. A&M wins early because it is a top 25 caliber team. Check the talent rankings and FPI and A&M is routinely in the top 15-20. The problem is that they play in the same division as the past 4 SEC Champions. Bama, Auburn, and LSU are just more talented and their coaches have been building those programs much longer with each HC being part of their respective program for over 8 years (Malzahn as OC and HC).

Football is the only sport where the strength of schedule counts for absolutely nothing and that is why they are ranked low at the end of the season. Remember the BCS is only devised to figure out the top 4 teams, no ranking outside of the top 4 means anything. If they did they would devise a system like the other sports with some form of RPI.
