So GP should win it because he hasn't build Missouri into a big enough power to get better recruits after 12 years?

The mess Missouri was in was because of GP. He didn't come in and turn around someone else's train wreck in year 1. He turned around his own in year 13.

We saw what Mizzou was in the 1 quarter theyf aced a decent team that was anywhere near full strength (even though the QB was still only about 60%). Mizzou may lose this weekend, they will def lose next weekend and regardless of what happens in the IB this isn't even a discussion.

Ole Miss is going to be the more difficult game to win.

To beat aTm, all you have to do is be prepared to outscore JFF and score last. Mizzou can do that.

Pinkel, if he wins the next two. He lost to the 2nd place team in his division, Gus lost to the 5th place team in his division.

Mizzou basically get the scraps that's left over after all the big time programs snatch up the recruits.
James Franklin
Matty Mauk
DGB (#1 recruit in the country)
Marcus Lucas
Jimmie Hunt
Kony Ealy
Shane Ray
Markus Golden
Lucas Vincent
Josh Augusta
Duron Singleton
Evan Boehm
Nick Demien
Clay Rhodes
etc

Were all 4 stars or higher on at least one recruiting service. To act like they are devoid of talent is just silly.

And how many players are on a roster, that's not many big time recruits there for a FBS school. Now compare that to schools like TAMU, LSU, BAMA, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, SC, Tenn.

Those are all starters or players that play a significant amount of minutes. What does the 3rd string center's star ranking matter?

They're both deserving but to me what Gus has done is more impressive. Mizzou had horrible injury problems that they don't have this year - that's not so much coaching as luck. I think a lot of non-Mizzou fans are mostly impressed with Pinkel because you're stuck in "they'll get destroyed in the SEC" mode, and he surprised you. Still a COTY-worthy year, though.

Auburn basically quit for Chizik last year and Gus has those same guys playing at a very high level. If Auburn wins the IB then I think Gus will run away with it, whether or not Auburn faces Mizzou in the SECCG. But it wouldn't hurt my feelings for Pinkel to win.

The last two weeks will determine the winner.

Mizzou makes it to the SEC championship game and Auburn doesn't... Pinkel Wins

If Mizzou and Auburn both make it to the SEC title game then I'd say it goes to the winner, but you could still make an argument for Malzahn even if they lose in the title game due to the teams they beat along the way.

If neither make it Malzahn still wins it, but what a job both have done in one year. The teams were equally as bad last year for completely different reasons and what they've done is equally impressive. That Auburn has done it against a tougher schedule will be what seperates the two I think.

Malzahn. But, giving him credit for a 10-1 record is slightly overstating it. For all intents and purposes, Auburn lost the Georgia game, and he shouldn't get credit for a miracle play that saved the game at the end.

Still, a well-earned 9-2 record is more impressive than Missouri's season, in my opinion.

The only real difference Pinkel this year to last year is he fired Yost. Wait, that's a pretty big difference.

How in the world do you figure that? Auburn was running away with that game and understandably let off the gas. Then they won.

JESUS! Like Im not even fond of either of those teams but its clear its Pinkel. Although Auburn was 3-9 you act like the cupboard was bare. Check the recruiting rankings between Auburn and Mizzou. Auburn has to be atleast top 5 and definently top 10. The real frick up was Chizz trying to run more of a pro-style offense with spread personnel.

I think it all depends on if Mizzou can win the east. But if they lose, or somehow Malzahn beats Saban, then Gus will win.

How in the world do you figure that? If Auburn "let off the gas," then that's an even more damning indictment of Malzahn, because it could have - should have - cost them the game.

So if a team makes a fourth quarter comeback it's illegitimized by the fact that the other team won the first three quarters?

No. A win is a win as far as overall records and BCS standings are concerned. But a win is not a "win" in this situation when we're talking about what kind of credit a coach deserves.

Can you honestly give Malzahn credit for the Georgia win? If, like this Texas A&M poster above, you believe Auburn stopped playing in the fourth quarter, then that actually reflects even more poorly on Malzahn than the simple fact that Georgia put itself in position to win barring a miracle that ended up happening.
