I think you may be correct. A&M hasn't exactly been a powerhouse in years(if ever). The move to the SEC has the university making all the right moves in improving the program, but it will take a little time. We have a bunch of fans who before the season, thought we would be an 8 win team, watched the team win a few, upped their expectations and now they're utterly deflated because Allen had a shitty(super shitty) game against one of the best defenses in the nation.

Art Briles ruined football in TX and it spread throughout the Big 12. ATM and Mizzou will never truly compete in the SEC because the offense (minus defense) can't compete with power offenses and defenses. A HS coach in TX who has the balls to run the Bone/Veer and dominate in time possession can succeed.

That's all I'm referring to. Seeing threads saying Bama is the west champs again just because a&m didn't beat them as if they are the only team that can. That stuff makes me think there's a portion of the fan base not living in reality.

Never equates to your Mickey Mouse offense, and remember, your new best buddy Chavis laid down he blueprint to defeat the Spread, ie....TCU, Oregon, TAMU, OU,,etc, etc

A&M has to get a couple of bruiser RBs on offense

Here are the running backs we have on the active roster right now:

SR - Tra Carson (6'0, 240)

JR - Keith Ford (5'11, 215): 5-star transfer from Oklahoma. Ineligible to play until the 2016 season.

SO - James White (6'0 220): Injured in the Arizona State game, still hasn't fully recovered enough to go more than 2-3 plays

FR - Kendall Bussey (5'9 200): Injured during fall camp, redshirting

FR - Jay Bradford (5'11 196): redshirting as a result of an illness

SR - Bryce Dolezal (5'9 180): walkon who just received a scholarship this year

FR - Kwame Etwi (5'9 190): walkon

Of the running backs to start the season, only the starter, #5, and #6 backs are even available right now

What frustrates us the most is that we haven't had many injuries...except to the two positions we absolutely could not afford to have them at: Running Back (A healthy James White changes the complexion of the Arkansas and Alabama games) and Linebacker (Otaro Alaka is out for the season)

2 of our front seven are from Louisiana and one is from California.

It's a bit more than that:

DE: Garrett (Texas), Hall (Washington)
DT: Obioha (Louisiana), Williams (Louisiana)
LB: Washington (Louisiana), Hilliard (Texas), Walker (Texas)

You don't seriously believe Daeshon Hall is from Lancaster because he played there 1-2 years or Alonzo Williams is from Long Beach because he played there 1 year, do you?

Hall played his JR and SR years in TX, against the offenses and with the coaching the OP was describing.

ATM is a great school / great facilities / fans / stadium is very unique / tradition rich(even if some of those traditions are a little weird to most).

but even with all of those great resources Texas HS football is keeping them from being able to compete at the elite level in the SEC.

Very little run defense is being coached in high schools. The offenses all play very uptempo and are pass heavy.

if you look at the stats from the Bama game you will see that DH had a huge majority of his yards just from within the tackles.

this is reflected at schools like Baylor/TCU/Tech.

Rules need to be changed within the HS level to bring back more importance to traditional defenses.

Either that or ATM needs to recruit their defensive front seven from the deep south

I agree with all of this and upvoted you.

Our inability to run has nothing to do with our system or TX HS football and everything to do with a poor OL and one healthy scholarship RB.

Aggies problem isn't the recruits it's the fact that they are soft and it comes from the head coach.

During Saturday's game against Alabama, Texas A&M thought they'd nonchalantly troll Texas by showing the score of Longhorns' loss to TCU from October 3rd...

This is all you need to know about Aggies, just sad on a day that was the biggest stage you will be on and they are still worried about UT

Sumlin needs to recruit TE's and incorporate them into whatever spread/hybrid offense he runs. That way if your OL isn't made up of all-world, 1st round draft picks, you can assist them with a couple 6'5 260 lb blockers on the edge. And not be so predictable in play-calling and personnel...

Ding ding ding. I think we have a winner. They're on their way to being better and being a powerhouse.

They're the same team they were when they left the BIG XII. They always had a good duel threat QB. Always had 1-2 really good WRs. Always had a decent to good Oline and a forgettable RB group that nobody could name. Always had 1-2 really good Dlinemen, a forgettable linebacker group, and a hard hitting safety.

That 10-2 team full of BIG XII players they put in the NFL is better than any team they've fielded since.

Mizzou is the same team as well. They seem a little better at the DE position but FAR inferior at the QB position than any of the QBs they had here by a wide margin.

TAMU still doesn't get that you need two big tackles and 250# middle linebacker to win in the SEC
