There is absolutely zero reason to get degree like that. They would be better off learning a trade or joining a union. Something worthwhile to contribute value to the American economy

At the end of the day, knowing people is more important.

I blame the 80's and the brain drain from other major to MBA's because RR was in office and Wall Street (movie) "Greed is Good" mantra. personally I would love for a return to "classical" education coupled with core development in a specific concentration. The day Latin was removed from the core ended the secondary benefits in the sciences, education, law, and medicine.

Anyway, did not mean to derail the thread so back to bert is fat I suppose.

Meh, so many jobs need a college degree to even apply even if someone with barely a high school education did that job 30 years ago.

A "worthless" degree is simply a way to avoid the first round of cuts and get you to the interview. In the interview is when you turn on the charm that some left brained engineer or scientist might not have.

There are 3 campuses considered to be part of Texas A&M University. Those campuses are located in College Station, Galveston, and Qatar.

Any other entities claimed by Texas A&M are part of the Texas A&M system.

Galveston probably has 2,000 students, and Qatar probably around 600. These numbers don't move the dial much.

You are forgetting the Fort Worth law school you bought a few years ago. Aggy has its precious little law school now.

Don't forget the medical students in Temple.

SO... aggy claims "Texas A&M" includes students in College Station, Galveston, Qatar, Temple and Fort Worth.

That's small-dicked laughable stuff right there, folks. Jackie Sherrill expanded stadium capacity in the 80s by making the seats narrower, so this is typical aggy. Everything comes back to The University of Texas for them.

Not sure if you've ever hired anybody or not, but this is laughable.

Moving quietly up

UK's drawback has always been its dedication to academics. Dr. Capiluoto is changing that with a quickness.

UK doesn't have to accept a student just because he graduated from a state high school anymore. The legislature did the school a huge favor several years ago by taking the Lexington Community College away from UK and making it a part of the KCTCS, the state community college system.

The Markey Medical Center recently attained NCI status and has top notch research programs. Medical research is one of UK's main strengths.

With new dorms, a new science center, student center and many other improvements, UK's 32,000-student campus is becoming a competitor in both academics and research. Of course, AAU status may never be on the horizon no matter how advanced UK becomes.

The AAU is a private organization whose membership is by invitation, not necessarily by qualification. There is a bias against some southern schools that will not go away any time soon. Sorry, UGA, UT, USC, LSU, Bama and Auburn.

That bias is costing UK and most of the SEC schools billions in federal research money. Coincidentally, federal research dollars are one of the most important considerations for membership in the AAU. That's what got Syracuse kicked out a couple of years ago. Their federal dollars dropped and their state research money increased but the AAU was not pleased.

The SECU needs to redouble efforts to raise the profiles of conference schools and demand a bigger share of federal research money. As it stands, there is a "tradition" of letting the AAU schools have first picks. Non-AAU get the leftovers.

According to the horns, the state of Texas is better served concentrating one of their flagship universities' medical and legal services in a small-ish college town, rather than in the areas where people need them.

Those dildo-swinging longhorns, geniuses I tell ya.
