In the spirit of kicking a team while it's down, it seems that UGA had given Bama a complete heads up on Jonathan Taylor's domestic violence case that was, at the time, pending in Athens...

quote:

Georgia officials sent photos of the woman’s injuries to University of Alabama police nearly three weeks before Taylor enrolled and also sent copies of two police incident reports involving Taylor. One report contained information not available to the public — contact information for the alleged domestic violence victim and the person who reported the incident to police. Alabama did not reach out to either person, a source told Outside the Lines, nor did it ever reach out to the district attorney presiding over the case.

quote:

“shared with [Alabama campus police] in order for all involved at the decision-making level to see the severity of the injuries involved, and for the nature of the incident to be understood in the hopes of preventing other students from being victimized,” Georgia spokesman Bob Taylor told Outside the Lines.

... and yet...

quote:

Georgia officials say that deputy athletic director Williams is the only non-law enforcement official at the school who has seen them.

quote:

An Alabama spokesman on Friday said neither Saban nor Battle ever saw the photos.

I don't know why this is surprising. College football players haven't been real students for a long time, they're pretty much semi-pros at this point. Who cares if they're too dumb to function in school or follow the law? I mean shite, what's the average ACT score of an SEC player, 17-18?

I seen this on ESPN this morning. I think the most glaring part of the article is that Saban does not support the new SEC imposed rules who have been deemed to have committed serious misconduct. Go figure

Alabama taking in the scum of the earth to try and fix some defensive problems. Pathetic. Didn't even work. :smh:

Girls? I admit that it was questionable letting him on the team in the first place, but the other girl came out and said that she lied about the whole thing...

Yep. Lawrence Phillips was charged with assaulting his ex girlfriend while at Nebraska and only got suspended for a few games. He was also selected 6th overall in the NFL Draft. In other words, right or wrong, a lot of schools as well as the NFL have looked the other way with this stuff for a long long time. Saban and Bama look bad in this situation but we're far from the first school to do so.

This is the most Georgia thread ever. UGA consistently shits the bed in the East when they're the favorites to win almost every year. But at least CMR 'does things the right way.' Nobody's impressed. Every team has bad apples that embarrass the program. The intersection of star athletes and tPOS's is high-- WHO KNEW?!

From the linked article:
quote:

Three days after Taylor's arrest, however, the girlfriend recanted her story and told police her wounds were self-inflicted. She was arrested on a charge of filing a false police report but, according to court records, on July 7, Taylor pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief as a result of the incident, and her charge was dismissed the same day.

Lt. Kip Hart, assistant commander of the Tuscaloosa Homicide Unit, told Outside the Lines that the woman's charge was dismissed because she later came back to police and told them her original report was true. "There was evidence to believe the initial story was accurate" Hart said. Court records confirm she ended up cooperating in the case against Taylor, and that's why the prosecution of Taylor moved forward.
