I'm from a family of Alabama but I was born in Atlanta and ha e lived here my entire professional life. I love Atlanta more than anything. Georgia is a great state and the coast is incredible, but South and West Georgia are exactly the same as South and East Alabama.
South Carolina's coast from HHI to Charleston (or even Pawleys) is full of great, old cities. Beaufort is great.

Which is why I think the coast and north Georgia mountains (particularly the Blue Ridge) separate it.

I've lived in Georgia myself, great state, but yeah... there is ITP and there is OTP. Its a night and day difference there.

Yea, North Georgia is very similar to Western NC. And the coast of Georgia is more my taste, because of the marshes and history (and is exactly the same as South Carolina, even down to cool old city), but the Alabama coast is also beautiful in it's own way. Less history, but gorgeous beaches.
Either way, I think of myself as being an Atlanta person, not really a Georgia person. Not because I'm ashamed of Georgia (great state) and certainly not the South, it's just it's own ecosystem.

Which I get and have many friends that feel the same way. And while there are aspects of Atlanta that I enjoy or don't mind, I'm most certainly a Georgia person before I'm an Atlanta person. Definitely a proud Southerner; my family is a blend of north and south Georgians and has been in the South for hundreds of years, traced back from Georgia to Alabama to North Carolina and Tennessee to (like most) our long ago arrival in Virginia. All poor farmers, a few preachers and school teachers, a lot of soldiers, more recently bankers and more teachers. And because of that lineage and heritage I guess I just feel more connected to the state itself as opposed to the city.

Totally understand and agree.
I'm like that with Alabama and have very similar family roots there (from Huntsville and Sand Mtn to the Black Belt going back to the settlements of the Napoleanic French), which some people have a hard time understanding Atlanta + Alabama.
