If everyone is moving to Georgia from other states, why can't UGA convince high school kids and their parents, who've already moved to the state of Georgia, to send their kids to the only publicly funded school in the state with an elite football program? I know Atlanta is a cosmopolitan city. I just have a difficult time envisioning an elite football coach losing 7/10 of the top 10 rated in-state players, assuming one uses the 247 composite rankings as the standard and also assuming they actually land 3/10, which isn't a safe assumption, to other SEC schools because most people in Atlanta aren't native to Georgia. Florida is not 1B. When Miami wins, which historically they have done, they dominate the Miami area recruits, which is by far the most fertile recruiting area in the state. Add to that, within four hours driving distance, you have another elite football program that dominates the Tallahassee area prospects. UF is an attractive job now because FSU and UM are down, relatively speaking. IF UM heats back up, and FSU continues to win, their talent pool becomes diluted. It's the same thing with Bama. If Auburn wins, they will take some recruits from Bama, which will hurt their recruiting efforts. UGA, LSU, UT, and Arkansas are the only four schools in the SEC that have the advantage of being the only major football program in their respective states. UT's problem is that Memphis, the only hotbed of football talent in the state, is much closer to Tuscaloosa and Oxford than UT. Arkansas just doesn't produce much talent. UGA produces an absurd amount of talent, much more than Louisiana, yet they consistently lose out on a lot of elite in-state talent. I understand the rationale behind losing SOME to out-of-state programs due to its proximity to other schools, but that's not an excuse to lose as many as they do. It's the fourth easiest job in the country IMO. You should have one national title. No question in my mind. 1. Texas 2. USCw 3. Ohio State 4. Georgia

Can you bend spoons with your mind?

The same logic applies to Georgia. South Georgia kids (Valdosta, Savannah, etc.) are much closer to FSU and UF than they are to UGA. West Georgia kids (Columbus) are closer to Auburn.

Generally, UGA does a pretty good job of getting their share of in-state talent. Of course there are some that get away. This year looks a little bit worse because of some extenuating circumstances (Bell living in Tenn, Nkemdiche's brother, etc.). The reality also is that Bama has won 3 of the past 4 championships, and that's hard to recruit against when Bama isn't far away. LSU is feeling that affect as well.

Regardless, UGA is still recruiting well if you look at the big picture.

What was I thinking?

Obviously not a whole lot since it's been spelled out for you multiple times in this thread.

I just thought of another way to explain it.

When an Alabama or Auburn grad can't find a job in his own state, he moves to Atlanta where there are jobs. Then he meets a really nice girl and marries her.

20 years later, they've got a nice strong young football player son that has been raised as a die hard Crimson Tide fan, or Auburn War Tiger fan, despite having been born and raised in Lawrenceville Georgia.

When UGA and Bama and Auburn come calling, the kid is going to lean toward the team he was raised to worship by his father who couldn't find a job in his own poor state 20 years prior.

Just to add to that point. My neighbors on one side are from Iowa, the other side Virginia.

There are 3 Bama, 2 Auburn, 1 Tennessee mailboxes in my neighborhood alone. My mailbox is house divided UGA/Bama due to my wife being from the Birmingham area.

People that don't live here will never understand that.

You could dumb it down so that a first grader could understand it and it won't matter for this guy. Great explanation btw
