We were still 5 yards from beating a Bama program that has arguably been the biggest benefactor of GA football for 5 years now. Honestly I don't get why other teams harp on this so much

When UGA's talent level becomes an issue, I will become concerned. UGA has its issues, talent is not one of them.

It was a lot worse before Richt got there. UT with Fulmer used to get everyone out of GA.

Using 247 composite

1. Nkemdiche - brother plays at Ole Miss, coach is a bama homer, just was never really interested in UGA
2. Adams - UGA is in the thick of it for him
3. Lawson - GT legacy, UGA never really recruited him.
4. Vonn Bell - actually lives in Tennessee
5. Tyren Jones - was a big miss, imo. UGA wanted him bad. FWIW, he's from Louisiana
6. Alvin Kamara - UGA in final 2, we'll see, i'm not hopeful
7. Demarcus Robinson - never really interested in UGA for whatever reason, UGA didn't pursue that hard
8. Tray Matthews - Committed to UGA
9. Kelsey Griffin - Had a press conference and committed to UGA, but didn't tell the coaches and was not a take. Pretty embarrassing for both sides.
10. Brice Ramsey - commited to UGA

Let's assume you sign Adams, Matthews, and Ramsey.

That's 30%.

I'm also not sure why everyone's continuing to give me stats about how many D1 players Georgia produces.

This thread is directed at addressing why the TOP players seem to go out-of-state.

I know you can't take all 1,000 players in UGA. What about just taking the top players?

I consider landing 3/10 in a state where you have no in-state competition to be poor.

Plus potentially the #1 player in FL and arguably the #1 player in Alabama (Foster).

Also, could get kamara making 40%.

ETA: I highy doubt UF takes 40% of the top talent in FL

...and UF has viable in-state competition for recruits: FSU and Miami.

UGA competes with Georgia Tech.

Any rational fan will admit Georgia Tech is not considered viable in-state competition for recruits.

If UGA had signed just the three players out of the 2007 class (Newton, Berry and Heyward), no coach in the country could screw that up. UGA has talent. If they landed three or four more elite players in their own backyard per class, it would not only strengthen their own roster, but it would hurt Bama and UT.

Addition by subtraction. Instead, Bama comes in and cherry picks two or three really good players per class, and whether you want to admit it or not, they're only going to become stronger in Georgia.

Georgia is setup better for success than any other program in the SEC. It's not close. LSU is probably a distant 2nd.

This may news to you, but most people in the state of Georgia live in metro Atlanta, it's like 80% of the population of the state, roughly.

Among metro-Atliens, over half of them are not from Georgia.

To assume that every kid in Georgia grows up a Bulldog fan, the way kids do in Louisiana or Alabama, would be wrong. I see as many Florida, Bama, Auburn, Tenn, and recently USCe stickers as I see UGA stickers on the interstates.

My point is that it's ignorant to assume that UGA should be recruiting all of the best players in the state for the simple reason that the kid happens to live in the state.

I wonder how Florida feels about Richt snatching Murray and Orson Charles from Tampa.

I also wonder how it must feel for LSU fans, knowing that Miles takes the rejects and sex offenders from such a floundering institution as the University of Georgia that allegedly can't recruit in its own state.

How did LSU miss on the top 2 instate players last year?

Because of Saban?

You're either a troll or dumb as shite. There are tons of schools surrounding our border. What's the difference if UF loses a recruit to FSU or UGA loses one to AU?

Clemson is 20 minutes from the GA border.
South Carolina is 1 hour flat.
Auburn is 15 minutes.
Knoxville Tennessee is 1.5 hours.
Gainesville FL is 1 hour 20 minutes.

Five big time schools ~1.5 hours or less from our border.

Georgia
Georgia Tech
Alabama
Auburn
Tennessee
South Carolina
Clemson

All of those D-1 schools are within 3 hours of Atlanta.

ETA: And deeprig breaks it down even further for you

If anything, GA is open to be recruited by more schools than any other state in the union. That's including Texas and California.

If everyone is moving to Georgia from other states, why can't UGA convince high school kids and their parents, who've already moved to the state of Georgia, to send their kids to the only publicly funded school in the state with an elite football program?

I know Atlanta is a cosmopolitan city.

I just have a difficult time envisioning an elite football coach losing 7/10 of the top 10 rated in-state players, assuming one uses the 247 composite rankings as the standard and also assuming they actually land 3/10, which isn't a safe assumption, to other SEC schools because most people in Atlanta aren't native to Georgia.

Florida is not 1B. When Miami wins, which historically they have done, they dominate the Miami area recruits, which is by far the most fertile recruiting area in the state. Add to that, within four hours driving distance, you have another elite football program that dominates the Tallahassee area prospects.

UF is an attractive job now because FSU and UM are down, relatively speaking. IF UM heats back up, and FSU continues to win, their talent pool becomes diluted.

It's the same thing with Bama. If Auburn wins, they will take some recruits from Bama, which will hurt their recruiting efforts.

UGA, LSU, UT, and Arkansas are the only four schools in the SEC that have the advantage of being the only major football program in their respective states.

UT's problem is that Memphis, the only hotbed of football talent in the state, is much closer to Tuscaloosa and Oxford than UT.

Arkansas just doesn't produce much talent.

UGA produces an absurd amount of talent, much more than Louisiana, yet they consistently lose out on a lot of elite in-state talent. I understand the rationale behind losing SOME to out-of-state programs due to its proximity to other schools, but that's not an excuse to lose as many as they do.

It's the fourth easiest job in the country IMO. You should have one national title. No question in my mind.

1. Texas
2. USCw
3. Ohio State
4. Georgia

I apologize. It's dumb to believe UGA is capable of signing more than three of the state's top 10 players.

What was I thinking?
