I couldn't quite put my finger on it - but I think you've nailed it Bella.

Bonner said she would also recommend to the Board that Coach Moore be named Athletics Director Emeritus as well as special assistant to the president.

Alter or not, posting like an Allin alter can't be a positive reflection of someone's real life persona.

“It is with extremely mixed emotions that I am involved in this process,” said Battle. “My strong preference is that my teammate and longtime friend Mal Moore would be announcing another amazing accomplishment. When the University reached out to me, my instinct was to say no. However, after speaking with Dr. Bonner, Dr. Witt, Coach Saban, Mal and Paul Bryant, and seeing what I’ve seen at the University, I couldn’t find a way to say no.
The heavy hitters got what they wanted.

Wow, Battle's really old to be taking a new position. We'll just have to replace him in a few years anyway. Doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm sure he'll do a good job, but he's just too old IMO

Battle is a solid guy with impressive credentials. But he is 72. I'd think you'd be going through all this again in another few years.

Maybe they're considering him a competent placeholder until Saban is ready to take the job.

Absolutely.

Saban is very demanding. Heck I could see him firing 1/3 of UA coaches

Which is why this hire is horrible. We didn't need a safe hire and this pretty much means we are stuck with Anthony Grant for 3 more years. This guy won't be firing anybody.

Including Wendell Hudson?

Does it bother you that every time you but a licenced LSU item you are lining the pockets of a Bama man?

Again, he is just the short term fix until the long term one is ready to take over. Now you can speculate all you want on who we are waiting on (which I already have), but I think we definitely are waiting on someone specific to step in within the next 5 to 10 years.

That's my thoughts. In the meantime, football, and most of the other sports are rolling and continuity is what's needed. He's a money man, has great contacts, and will be an assest to fundraising, as Coach Moore was outstanding in this regard. From a quick glance, from the outside, it looks to be a good hire, imo.

Maybe he'll set it up so that Alabama is the secret beneficiary to 1% of all college licensing sales everywhere.

We'll share. I bet he's friends with Emmert and they'll come up with an arrangement when Emmert is named AD at LSU.
