If Thompson isn't ready, y'all screwed next year?

Golden was a flawed player, but UT had just about nothing behind him. Who is going to play PG next year? Thompson? McRae? Hubbs? Some grad transfer we don't know about yet?

Interesting note - in both games Golden missed last season, Tennessee lost. Arkansas and UGA.
Had only 8 and 9 assists and 60 and 62 points in each game too.

Unless Thompson blows the coaches away my guess is that offensively Maymon will be the primary initiator of the offense and press breaker just as he was two years ago with McRae, Moore, and Richardson helping him out.
I think this improves us defensively no matter what. Golden is the worst on-ball defender Tennessee has run out there since the Buzz Peterson era and this allows Tennessee to go strictly with Richardson/McRae/Thompson on the ball and switch all screens except Stokes' man.

Tennessee was pressed to death in both of those games. Had no one who could get the ball across the timeline. Maymon should take care of that just as he did when Golden was having problems with it the press in 2011-12.

Tennessee apparently trying to get Antonio Barton.
I sound like I'm downplaying this, but I will say this, if you had asked me this morning to rank the squad in terms of importance to the team Golden would have been 4, possibly 5.
Maymon/McRae/Stokes
LARGE GAP
Hubbs/Golden/Richardson/Thompson

. Would not be surprised to see us add another PG here late via JUCO/transfer.
You just released a PG a couple days ago who signed with you for "not having room" since Stokes was coming back...

Yeah well now we find ourselves 1 below the scholarship limit - Landry was never going to play in the SEC.

This just further clears the way for a Kentucky shellacking of the SEC next season.
Except we must remain vigilant against the Marshall Henderson's of the world.

While I can agree with you at a level, I think the biggest test you have to look at is replacement cost. When I say that I mean, how much better is he than his replacement.
I do not know all that much about Tennessee's backup PG situation, but I do know Golden has gotten the starts for a couple years, so I'm sure they have a talented backup, but he won't have the experience that Golden had. Either way, it will be interesting to see how Tennessee reacts.
