Yeah, Rucker just tweeted me saying the same thing when I asked him so I believe it now.

Regardless of whats Really happening, the Press CCM is getting right now over the Landry and Trae situations aren't ideal by any means

Let's be honest: Tennessee needed Trae Golden to move on in order to move up. And now it's coming. Sez he'll be a grad transfer.

This is the dumbest thing and I hope any Vol fan doesnt believe that.

Dude averaged 12 points and had a 2:1 AST:TO ratio last year. 2-year starter. You're not finding a better option than him for next season at the point.

The general rumor is that this isn't academically related at all and that Martin told Golden that his PT would decrease so it would be better to transfer. That would be an awful move by Martin. I don't care if they've butted heads in the past... You just don't process your soon-to-be three-year starter, senior PG.

If true, this, preceeded by the Landry situation, certainly isn't helping Martin's reputation as the ethical coach that does things the right way.

Golden is absolutely awful defensively. That said, this will really blow up in Martin's face if Thompson struggles.

VolQuest Mods are alluding that it was an academic situation that Martin had no control over. So yeah, not his fault

I wouldn't think it'd be related to his GPA, though... It's too early for that.

So cheating?

You couldn't be more correct. His god-awful turnovers cost is dearly a few times as well. I don't think its a huge loss but we do need to find another PG to back up Thompson.

This is not about academics. Exams are still going ok and how often do seniors have grade issues? And it's not cheating because UT granted him a release - if he had cheated he wouldn't be in good standing with the university and more or less would've been kicked off the team and would've been reported as such and not as a transfer.

From everything I'm hearing, Golden and Martin's relationship was at best "rocky". I'd assume he doesn't like the coach enough to transfer away for him final year.

So no one really has any clue at this point? This should be interesting.

The one thing that everyone agrees on is that this wasn't Golden's choice. He was forced out for one reason or another, apparently.

Not sure I'm buying what Trae's selling here. Cheating as Parrish and Lewis have alluded to IMO.

Sounds like Cuonzo is going after Antonio Barton.

smoke screen imo - how does the university grant a release to a kid who violated the academic policy multiple times? A lot of kids get kicked out on the first cheating offense.. yet this kid does it several times and not only isn't kicked out to save face but is granted a release? Wtf?

If you withdraw from school before the end of the semester, you remain in good standing in the university's eyes. No credit for the semester obviously and no returning for at least a semester. That's what's going on here in all likelihood.

Not sure what the release has to do with it. He will not be eligible anywhere this fall according to Parrish so not sure why you would fight that when he is not even going to be eligible.
