Let me actually defend the broad sentiment of that and say that I've got a buddy that went to both AU and GT engineering and said the difference between the two was negligible

I do not, a solid assumption. Still I know Georgia Tech is probably the premier public engineering program in the country. there's no way clemson has the offerings, alumni base, connections, endowment, facilities, etc that georgia tech has to offer

South Carolina, speaking from experience (I'm a mechanical engineering major) has a hell of an engineering program. Reason I chose SC over Clemson other than the obvious hatred of their sports teams is the fact that it's one of the very few schools in the country with a Nuclear Engineering graduate program which is what I'm wanting to get into.

I don't think there is any different in the alumni network size, they are similar size schools and CLemson is actually 3000 more undergrad students now.
Obviously more CLemson alumni in SC.
everything you know about Georgia Tech is based on US News rankings.
endowment and other stuff you talk about has nothing to do with the quality of the education. that is a trivial brag for the university, not a proof the university is better vs another college for a student.

A&M is a very well funded school, but it also has an enormous amount of political pull.

These rankings aren't exactly intellectually honest.

You made a response thread to...Tillman? Dude.

Clemson is actively pumping in out of state students at the expense of SC residents. Your argument doesn't hold much water.

When I was in the program, it directly fed students into jobs at NASA, Texas Instruments, Cyrix (yes, I'm dating myself), and several petroleum companies in the state.
They had just finished building their own supercollider/cyclotron my junior year.

not really because those out of staters help keep in state costs down for the CLemson residents, paying that 10th highest out of state tuition in the country. lol Atlanta is closer to Clemson than much of SC so it is kind of bad they can't get in state.
UGA and Georgia Souther were allowed to start engineering programs in the past few years. it was crazy G Tech had been able to keep a monopoly on engineering in the state at public universities.

this list just ranking selectivity, not the quality of the program. the liberal arts people at US News can't rank engineering programs with credibility.
US News must be a decent source for rankings considering Clemson list several of those rankings on their website.

Was there for two years, damn near everyone I ran across when networking or going out majored in _____ Engineering.
That or the Mays School.

any college is going to tout if they are high in it, they know students and parents think it set in stone.
Clemson's ranking went up as the selectivity increased. Selectivity increased due to more exposure on social media and warm weather location near Blue Ridge and 4 hours from beach is attractive to out of staters.
It had nothing to do with the academic programs getting better.

Does the tan = sin/ cos at both Clemson? GT? Harvard?
I never understood how the same laws and rules of math are harder or "better" at some locations than others.

that's my point. how do all the best professors just happen to get a job at the same universities. Is working in a cold climate at a northeastern ivy truly more attractive than working in the sunny south?

By all means...please provide proof from a creditable source proving clempson is one of the top engineering schools in the country
Posted on 4/19/17 at 7:28 pm to CobraCommander83
i don't need to prove it to you. If you have doubts, then don't go to Clemson. My father gave me two choices for college, Clemson or SC, I chose Clemson mostly because of location. So a discussion of what best program in country was never relevant and I think this is how it goes for most middle class kids. My degree has been good enough for getting a job.
my point is most employers view all engineering programs the same, particularly among the large state univesities and the well known private schools, with some exceptions.
