Malzahn is on there ahead of Dantonio or Chris Peterson after 1 year?

Has Dantonio or Peterson gotten their teams to the National Title?

I think, if we're talking Xs and Os here, Gus should absolutely be right up there near the top of this list. The lack of time he's been a HC is the ONLY knock someone could possibly have on him at this point, but there's not exactly any reason to believe that he won't only move up from where he is. He's a brilliant coach, and a great motivator.

Yep. Never mind the fact that Gus Malzahn was thrust into the most ideal situation a coach could ever have. Virtually every single offensive player on that roster was recruited to Auburn for HIS system. Not only that, there was quite a bit of talent on that roster due to a couple of Top 10 recruiting classes Chizik brought in while he was the head man on the Plains.

While Auburn went 3-9 in 2012, that was not a 3-9 caliber team. There was quite a bit of talent on that roster that was being woefully misused by a coach who was in completely over his head.

You are what your record says you are. We were a 3-9 team and played like one. We got blown out in most of those losses, so its not like luck just didn't go our way. We sucked. Malzahn got those players to believe that they were good then did what he does as a coach to get them to succeed. Was there talent on the roster, sure, but he and our S&C program now get 1000% credit for developing. So not sure how that could possibly be a knock on him.

Also, go look at the attrition of those "top" classes Chizik brought in. Seemingly MOST of the star players either left, got kicked out, or went to the NFL after 1 yr from JUCO (Cam/Fairley).

Peterson would have been in more than one title game had he been in a major conference.

Im not really a fan of rankings with so little to go on. if forced to include malzahn, he deserves to be in top 10, with his current resume. But Peterson should be ranked ahead at this point

Chris Peterson - 4 WAC titles, 1 MWC

Not to mention the sustained success Peterson has had at Boise St.

Same league, different name. Those teams switched around so much, you couldn't keep up with it. We will see how good a coach Peterson is this year. Having to play a good opponent more than once a year will wear on him.
