It's funny seeing these piggies defending EJ when Petrino lit him up on a yearly basis.

Will be even more funny to see Muschump get lit up by Petrino in a few weeks.

More smoke and mirrors from Auburn.....

Malzahn is the king of talking up his team when no one can see them. I would think he would like to lay low and just say the defense is improving. Why talk about them being dominant and Lawson being unblockable. It just creates high expectations from a fanbase that really just wants to see a decent defense that doesn't suck in all phases like season. Now if they come out and give up 30+ to Louisville they will all be disappointed rather than looking at the assignment improvements they made over last season.

Besides, your statement is no different than everyone defending Muschamp despite getting lit up by Alabama quite often.
Define "quite often."

In 2009 & 2011 your offense averaged 315 yards @ 5.1 yards/play.

For comparison, Malzahn as HC has averaged 512 yards of offense against Alabama @ 6.5 yards/play.

The problem wasn't the defense in 2/3 games you guys love to quote. The problem was his offense could never stay on the field (2011 UF offense had 9 first downs against Alabama) and/or turned the ball over a lot (UT had 5 turnovers against Alabama, 1 of which happened inside UTs 5 yard line).

But I forget that this is the rant and only HUNH teams negatively effect the defensive performance.

"Subpar"... No, no, no!! Both your defense and offense were arse raped in those games...

Yeah, and they weren't subpar. They were total dominating, imposing their will, tear the heart out kind of games. No great defense allies shite like that. None. Ever. In the history of football.

Let's be honest here...subpar?

Ole Miss' defense wasn't the reason for losing to Arky... the defense played fine.

So the justification for how good a defense is, or may be in the future, is based on a single meaningless bowl game?

Ole Miss had arguably the best defense in CFB last year, and they should be good again in 2015.

By a "decent margin"? Alabama had a down year, and didn't finish first in the SEC in defense for the first time since 2007. But it still led the SEC in run defense and finished third in total and scoring defense. With 8 starters back and arguably the most depth in college football, I don't see a "decent margin" at all.

I don't believe the defense ever saw the sideline.

That doesn't seem to be the rhetoric people apply to Alabama. Because obviously the Auburn and Ohio State games prove Alabama will never field a dominant defense again. Nevermind Alabama led the SEC in nearly every major defensive category from 2008-2013, and top five in the country in the same categories during the same time.

In 2009, we took our foot off the gas when we were up by 18 at the half. Our error. Not to mention a QB with injured ribs.

As far as 2011 is concerned - we scored 38 points. Short fields tend to give higher scores and fewer yards.

It doesn't matter what we debate here, only what happens on game day. Your opinion and my opinion regarding future events dictated by individuals that neither of us have even the slightest impact on is irrelevant.

It remains to be seen if the result of EJ's failures were his, the HUNH, Malzahn's specific influence, or personnel.

That being said, you're being quite disingenuous. You give Malzahn his full resume to work with, but leave off when Alabama scorched Muschamp for over 670 yards. Being tired had nothing to do with it - we had over 250 yards in the first quarter.

And, to be fair, that was the first Muschamp vs Kiffin matchup we've seen. We could extrapolate, based on your Malzahn vs Bama logic, that Kiffin presently owns Muschamp to the tune of 672 yards per game and 7.7 yards per play. ;)

Yeah, it's really dumb. Alabama is obviously going to be good on defense as long as Saban is the coach.

No, but it's fair to bring up a game in which the OM defense was completely obliterated by a good team. I don't know how you can't see this.

Not even better than LSU.

I don't understand how Arkansas isn't on that list. I could understand if we were low on it but to not be on it at all is a mistake imo. Ole miss, Tennesse, and Auburn will all have good defenses but I think they are all a little overrated on the list.
