Posted this on coaching changes board but it bears repeating.

He gave up 360 yards per game his last year here, which we have never done at any other time in our history.

Here's another point of comparison.
-This year in Mel's first year, we gave up 30 points twice.
-In Pruitt's 2 years here he gave up 30 points 8 times.
-In Willie martinez's 5 years here he allowed 30 points 16 times.
-In Brian VanGorder's 4 years here he allowed 30 points one single time.
-In Grantham's 4 years here, he allowed 30 points 21 times. Under richt the other "worst" DC we had was willie martinez, who surrendered 30 16 times in 5 years...in one less year grantham managed to tack on 5 more times. His final season (the really bad one) we gave up 30 points EIGHT times! If you're giving up 30 points in 3/4 of your games, you're gonna have a bad time.

And in 1 year, Sirmon gave up 30 points 7 times (UMass, Auburn, UK, Samford, Alabama, Arkansas, OM) and 28 twice.

We aren't expecting to be top 5 or even top 25. Just average. He can make us average.

Best part is we get to find out this year. We won't have to wait. But, I can assure you yall will not walk all over us. Your offense is putrid at best and you will have to score at least 35 points to beat us. Eason and co better figure something out by next season. You managed to score a whopping 14 points against probably the worst run D this conference has seen in a decade.

His 2013 defense gave up 19.64 points/game. This year, your defense gave up 24. Thoughts?

This, along with Fox naming Fitz a Heisman contender, is reason for postseason grind. Possibly the greatest trade rape ever.

You must be thinking of 2012. 10 returning starters on that defense with 2 first round draft picks. Richt in his 12th season, TG in his 3rd.

This year, we returned 3 starters and had to replace the entire front seven. New coaching staff.

Your 2013 was basically the exact same scenario?

Oops. My bad. Looked it up and it was 29.

From looking back at 2013, it sounds like yall lost a lot from that 2012 defense.

"Will Georgia have a defense? The Bulldogs have few offensive concerns. They were the nation’s No. 1 yards per play unit in 2012. Ten starters return from that group, including Aaron Murray, the Gurley/Marshall combo and the entire offensive line. Georgia’s limiting factor will be on defense. That side brings just three starters back and loses a ton of NFL-caliber talent."

So sounds like your defense was supposed to take a step back in 2013.

And that's fine, I don't think anyone is sayign MSU are bunch of tards for hiring him.

UGA fans have simply said we hate him, then given rreasons why when asked. I was simply telling you why we don't like him...if you think he's a good fit for MSU then cool.

I've always known Georgia fans to be behind the curve when it comes to their knowledge of the West, but these guys in here are like talking to 4th graders.

I've collected on a couple of bets with Georgia fans since 2010

Some of your brethren's comments in this thread sound otherwise.

It was, but no one expected them to be so inept against the pass. And fans were kinda divided on him after the 2012 unit somewhat regressed... gave up 180+ rushing yards per game.

As I mentioned, Grantham did some good things at UGA like rushing the QB and forcing turnovers. His 2011 defense was one of my favorites under Richt. Unfortunately, there were just too many instances where we didn't look like we had a clue of what we were supposed to do and that resonated with our fans.

To make matters worse, Jim Chaney hung 45 on him a couple of years ago and Chaney hasn't been able to score on anyone.

Ok well, the whole thing as I understand it was UGA fans started trashing grantham then when asked why we started giving reasons.

Our whole involvement in this thing is strictly from a place of grantham-hate, I don't think many of us are all that concerned which school he's at as long as it's not ours.

For real.

Uga: Grantham sucks

State: why

Uga: defense was awful

State: I see his defenses were very good and fell off in a year where he had to replace 10 starters

Uga: whatever he's fine but we just hate him because, well, mythical reasons

State: that's ok our coach is a Scientologist

Yeah, pretty sure we will.

WAS - Operative word. Last year has nothing on this year. O-line will be greatly improved, Chubb will be (one would have to assume, anyway) closer to his old self by game one than he was this year, etc. 2010 was a tough year for us with Aaron Murray in his first year. You saw how the next three went. Same deal. Eason wasn't ranked where he was coming out of high school for no reason and he has certainly shown some flashes of what he can do. If receiver play improves, I have no worries.

Possibly, but not really sure there's any evidence to support this. Miami (OH) would have just needed 18.

Covered this already. I think we're good.

Ole Miss wasn't the same team by the time you played them. No comparison here. Besides, are you really attempting to insinuate that Memphis was better than Bama in 2015 with this "they beat you and we beat them" BS (Ole Miss beat Bama and Memphis beat Ole Miss, if you don't recall)?

In our last 19 games against you, we've lost three times. Two of those were prior to 1975. You'll understand if I'm completely comfortable with our chances this year.

Really? Against what teams? You only get to claim one win in that span and it was against our worst team in well over a decade.

With his scoring defense ranks, he sounds a lot like Chris Wilson and Geoff Collins as our DC. Bend don't break.
