I think it's pretty clear he has learned enough from last mistakes that he isn't going to crash and burn. He will maintain a stacked roster and has shown the ability to keep and attract elite assistants.

I absolutely hated the hire when it was made but he has done everything right so far.

I think LSU will be strong on both sides of the ball with Aranda and Canada coaching. I worry about what happens when either one leaves for a HC gig and we have to make another great hire. Eventually, we will miss on a coordinator hire and the wheels will fall off.

It will be highly dependent on the hire of Matt Canada, IMO

Agree, but at worst Canada is an average to slightly above average OC who is creative. That alone would have increased LSU's win totals the last few years by 1-2 games a season IMHO.

Yep. I'm cautiously optimistic at this point. If O really does sit back and let Canada and Aranda do their own thing on game days and we stay away from recruiting violations, things could go well.

However, the question will then become, how long do Canada and Aranda stay before being plucked for HC or NFL opportunities and how well we do replacing them.

Yep. But, that is a problem you'd love to have to address, because it means they've been successful enough to be offered promotions.

LSU will be one of the most improved teams this year in the Nation without a doubt but it may not translate directly to wins. Aranda is great DC, I do want to hold my opinions on Canada until I see LSU offense on the field and in SEC play. O is still an enigma of sorts, mainly because will he truly allow his Coordinators the space to make adjustments and support them when the game is on the line or a lot is at stake. Teams usually respond when coaches are fired they rally behind the new coach but it's hard to keep momentum going once the honeymoon period ends and optimism is replaced with expectations. Time will tell

I have said this before but most real serious x and o football guys remain Cordinator's for the entirety of the careers and or never head coaches. This is due to the fact that his coaches are more managers than anything else. Exception not the rule but his constant harassment and interference with his coordinators gently lead to them not last more than a few years with him. Was basically fired for the same thing not allowing his offense of coordinators to call the game.

He has said he learned his lesson about not trusted other coaches and delegation at ole miss. He has a great group of talented young coaches with him and it the egos can play well together and they hang around for 4-5 years before becoming HC then I think he will do very very well at LSU.

He is well liked, knowledgeable, has a huge network across the country, and even his detractors admit he is one of best recruiting coaches in America. His only problem is of course Saban.

So les la bon temp roulez

Trolling aside most on the Rant thought O was a solid hire given the circumstances...We tease you guys because about him being the DL coach because you guys spammed the Rant for months about LSU legendary coaching search. No one fears LSU never understood that narrative spun on here by you guys. LSU finally decided step into modern day College Football Xs and Os all I see. I'm not hating but man you got to let the product get on the field and perform before you claim anything IMO or you nothing than more a Tennessee fan.
