I hate Bama but love AJ. I don't know how to feel.

I have nothing against Grant, but he's just not a good head coach, which was obvious after a couple of years. Avery has made a team full of role players into a tough out. The plays, the adjustments, the players' confidence, and the cohesiveness of the team are far better than they were under Grant. I can't wait to see what happens when we get a little more talent on the floor.

thru 23 games...

2016: 14-9 (5-6)
2015: 14-9 (4-6)

What am I missing here?

That number 1 ranking for Gottfried is the most embarrassing bulletpoint of his career. That team was absolutely fricking stacked. Briefly number 1 before the conference schedule....less than a month and a half later, they were unranked. went 7-9 in conference. Classic Gottfried.

+1

It's a noticeable change in team chemistry and overall confidence. Better play calling from the coaches too.

The way our teams plays now, our wins against ranked teams, and the fact that we're on the bubble at this point

Yeah and Bama is overachieving. How is LSU doing with the projected top pick in the draft?

1st place in conference

You're missing the context of the two seasons. We lost our top 3 scorers going into the season and we lost our starting point guard in game 7.

first year coach and only 9 bodies to play with. Just to be close to 500 in the league with the "talent" on the team is amazing. Our best PG was out after game 7. So if this team can finish 500 in SEC it will be a huge accompishment. AJ has many returns plus the RS kids plus the Transfers plus a great incoming class.

There is not an NBA potential player on the current playing roster.

You're going to have roughly the same overall record, SEC record, and RPI that you had last year.

But congrats?

Yeah. Before the season, we would have been thrilled with an NIT invite. Now we're on the bubble of the NCAA tournament.

A Florida football fan should really understand the importance of context and expectations, considering how thrilled they were with Mac's first season

I mean anyone asking that question isn't paying very close attention. We lost nearly all of our scoring from last year. Some preseason prognosticators had us 13th in the conference preseason. Instead, we've got a top 50 rpi, 4 wins against ranked teams (the most in 15 years) and national scouts saying things like "nobody in the country is doing more with less than Avery Johnson." Plus the team is extremely likable and much more fun to watch than the last couple years. It's been fun for the fans.

Not to mention that he has an elite recruiting class coming in full of players that weren't even considering us before we hired him.

If you're asking that question, you're not paying attention. Johnson has absolutely killed his first half year on the job so far. Not debatable.

we got a ways to go before we are on the bubble. We are on the outside looking in but trending in the right direction. Kapish?

Grant isn't a bad coach. He started out well but a combination of weird transfers, bad in-state talent, and him not wanting to grease palms with Bama boosters did him in.

But, ultimately, he didn't leave a dumpster fire. He locked up the best the state had to offer in 2014 and 2015. Even if they're not stars, Grant recruits like Norris, Coleman, Taylor, Ingram, and Hall will help give Avery a nice bridge to set up his own program.
