Depends on the conversation. If the conversation is discussing teams that beat Auburn's arse regularly, UGA does belong in that conversation.

Well, the conversation certainly wouldn't revolve around championships of any kind.

When it comes to beating AU we do! The last time AU beat either one was off of two flukes.

It all hinges on the young OL being ready to go. We have a seriously talented football team, though.

I'm a Bammer that likes UGA ok since I've lived in Georgia most of my life, and many of my friends, and even some of my family, are UGA fans. I hope they do well, primarily because they have common enemies with Alabama in Auburn and Tennessee. A strong UGA and Alabama is beneficial to both programs, since strong programs there will impact Auburn and UT.

That said, I think UGA's success hinges on whether or not Smart will actually be a good head coach, and perhaps moreso, whether that offensive coordinator will prove to be sufficient. Smart, and moreover, The University of Georgia could have done better than that guy, but maybe he'll work out ok.

I know UGA fans aniticipate this coming year with much guarded optimism. It won't make or break Smart's career as a head coach, but it will be a pretty good indicator as to whether he can do it.

It is Georgia's year to win the East. I wouldn't expect more than that yet.

Georgia's year to lose that win streak against Auburn.

Maybe, but what you said is demonstrably false.

And how long did it take you to finally fire him? How long did it take Auburn to pull the plug on a NC (that's short for national championship for all you UGA fans) coach? See the difference

If UF gets the right coach, look out.

The 2 situations aren't remotely comparable.

Richt was in that awful area (as it relates to this discussion) of being really good most of the time, but rarely great and never awful (ok awful for 1 season, 6 years before he was fired) over the course of 15 years. Add in a spineless AD like we have and you're always doing JUST enough to hang around.

Compare that to the constant rollercoaster ride that is Auburn football. Sure chiz got a title in 2010, but he regressed massively the next year without a generational player at QB and went 3-9 the next year. It was clear that cam and gus were to thank for 2010, not gene. So that was a pretty easy fire, which isn't nearly the same situation as richt.

Our coach kept winning. Chizik went 3-9.

Well said. There wasn't much available in the way of OC's when Smart came in. All the hot shots were shopping for HC positions and Chaney is about the best of what was out there for us.

A big factor in Chaney's retention was to have some continuity. If he had been replaced this offseason, then this year's seniors would have had four OC's in four years.

2017- New Guy
2016- Chaney
2015- Shottenheimer
2014- Bobo

Instead of installing a new offense with a new OC, lets build on what little we got right last year, and work to improve what we didn't get right last year.

That's the way I'm looking at it.

But I don't think Chaney lasts past 2017 without significant improvement. He's loaded with talented players. True Fresh QB now a soph. Both star RB's came back for senior year. No excuses.

I thought he was a bum last year but to give the guy at least a little benefit of the doubt, he really didn't inherit the best situation. True Freshman QB, awful OL, installing a brand new offense with a brand new coaching staff, only dependable receiver for 3/4 of the year was a 5'8" punt returner. I mean there's only so much you can do.

I am HOPING that with an improved sophomore QB, improved OL play, and excellent RBs and TE we'll see a little more from him this year.

Fair enough, but you know the plethora of young talent coming in tends to get better by years end.
