If this were the case, then how come teams with great offenses and mediocre defenses win championships year in and year out?

FSU 2013 - Very good D
Bama 2012 - Great D
Bama 2011 - Great D
Auburn 2010 - Average D (Had an unstoppable force at QB)
Bama 2009 - Very good D
UF 2008 - Great D
LSU 2007 - Good/Above Average D
UF 2006 - Very good D

Not sure what your definition of year in and year out is, but it's clearly off.

The majority of those defenses you listed weren't great defenses. And Florida's offense in 2008 was a bigger influence on their title than their defense was.

A player, that gets played by the game.

So, you're saying offense is more important that defense. In every year, except 2010 and 2008 there were better offenses than the NC. They won because they had a defense. Plain and simple.

Majority of the time, offenses have more to do with their teams winning a championship than the defense does. That is my point, yes.

A great example of needed a great offense more than a great defense is LSU in 2011. Arguably one of the best defenses ever but had an average offense.

So why have most of the championships been low scoring?

An anomaly. The best two offenses in the country in 2010 (Auburn and Oregon) had a low scoring game. Neither team had very good defenses.

Against one of the best defenses EVER and an above average offense,

Who cares about making stops when you can put up 40 plus points a game.
OSU just had a fourth down goal line stop.

Well you're wrong. You want to prove your point, then go find all the National Championship teams that had an offense ranked in the top 10 and a defense ranked outside the top 50. If there are more than 10 of them I'll be shocked.

Defense also gets the edge with a month to prepare. Our defense was ready for Oregon in 2010 for sure.

Good point. Preparing for a month definitely helps.

So you're saying a good offense coupled with one of the all time great defenses would have won a national title? That's a revelation right there.

They didn't win a national title. That's my point. Alabama's offense was just good enough to move the ball against one of the best defenses of all time. LSU's offense wasn't able to do that on Bama though. Had they had an above average offense, that game would have been totally different IMO.

And for what it's worth, I think if Jarrett Lee had been let in the game, you would have scored. He was a much better game manager than Jefferson was.

It's amazing how all year our "average mediocre offense" sliced and diced average to above average defense but when we played a great one it makes your argument valid.

You're proving my point, not yours.

LSU had a prolific offense just last year. An offense that had 5 players that started as rookies, and 3 that are looking like future stars. Yet, LSU lost 3 games because of the defense. There's a reason the saying isn't "Offense wins championships."

You want further proof, just look a the Seahawks. They are a great defense with an average offense and they are running over all of these great offensive teams every week.

The best your offense looked against good competition was Auburn and Arkansas. Outside of that, they played well against pedestrian defenses. Hell they only scored 19 on MSU that season.

What about the Packers in 2010? Or the Colts the year they won the Super Bowl? Or any of the Patriots' super bowl teams? Incredible offenses, ok defenses
