The problem for Tennessee is they aren't good enough to hire a good coach, which is why they ended up with lyle in the first place.

We ended up with Lyle because this job was so toxic after Dooley's departure that we couldn't get anyone else. It's not the same job it was 4 years ago, it's a much better job, and we have much more money to play with now.

Who out there beside Gruden (lol) and Kiffin is available? IMO, any UT overtures to Kiffin would seem to be an act of desperation after the way things ended a few years ago.

Kiffin will never happen, the reds will never allow it. Some of our fans are just having fun with this right now. But there are other options (some names are floating around that might surprise you, not just internet rumors, I got sauces brah), and we have plenty of time and cash, if we end up having to hire someone before NSD, which I doubt.

That's what I'm thinking. Butch to Purdue without being fired just seems too good to be true. But then again, you never know.
From my "sauces", we're overhauling S&C, purging Martinez, Mahoney, and Thigpen and getting a QB coach.
The S&C hire is huge, we need to make a good hire here. I think we'll go somewhere between 5-7 and 7-5 next year and Lyle will be shown the door.

Again, look at LSU for the last 9 years, and then look at Tennessee for the last 9 years. LSU can justify firing an 8-4/9-3 coach, Tennessee cannot.

Indeed. UGA tried to warn us, but we didn't listen, and the dam broke. I might be ok with keeping Thigpen because we actually had solid LB play until this year, but Martinez needs to GTFO.
QB coach is important. Replacing Mahoney is the most important on the offensive side right now.
