I'm going to take this post at face value.

There's so damned much to do here that you can pretty much park anywhere close to the Capital and pick a direction to walk.

I recommend Freedmen's for BBQ in town (Brisket and spare ribs are awesome). If you actually want to see a little bit of what is left of real Austin, Texas Chili Parlor is awesome.

Hell, leave Austin early and hit Southside Market and Meyer's in Elgin on the way to CS.

East 6th has a ton of hipster bars that are actually pretty cool if you can take all of that with a grain of salt. You can find anything from Mezcal Bars to a good Texas Swing band over there, so don't let the skinny jeans and beards scare you off.

Maudies is pretty good as everyone has mentioned. Polvos is good too. Or, if you want to test your Spanish and weather a few nasty looks, there is a taco truck at call El Tocarrido at Runberg and Lamar that stays open until 3 a.m. that is awesome. You may end up getting stabbed, but the al pastor is worth it. Hopdoddy is actually good, but for me, there are too many places that make a good burger in this town that don't require I show up at 5 to avoid the line. Pinthouse Pizza is up that way as well and has good pie and a great beer selection.

And if you wanted to troll A&M, well, I'd give that another shot.

Good post. I lived in Austin for a couple years. Haha, don't send some kid from Ole Miss to get stabbed on Lundberg. There are a ton of places to get good food around town that you also mentioned...

But alas, it was probably just a lame troll attempt.

6th Street is always a good time.

No, it's not. 6th is pure gutter-trash these days. It's not what it was even 6-7 years ago. Nothing but the lowest socioeconomic rung fighting each other in Affliction shirts. It's not even an "Austiny" scene anymore.

Hit up Rainey Street or the Warehouse District or walk east of 35 into hipsterland and catch a live show at one of the clubs over there.

ACL attracts good acts but unlike the other big festivals they let people bring lawn chairs and the masses of old townies camping in gigantic lawn chair clumps makes it impossible to walk around between shows. Ruins it.

I live in central Austin, so if you need cynical real world advice I am your guy.

If you want a place to just get hammered and watch games and don't care about being cool, you cant go wrong by sticking to old school townie spots like the Tavern on Lamar, Crown & Anchor, or Abels (I prefer on the lake).

If you want to get your dick sucked by a whore, this town is JAM packed with strip clubs.

If you like craft beer, drive out to Jester King Brewery. It's bad arse.

I second this. Just north of my house.

Brisket hash at 24Diner is great!

Homeslice pizza was good.

The Blind Pig on 6th was the spot for the Ole Miss game last year. Thought we would cave the roof in when Feed Moncreif came on.

Polvos is good in SOCO. Hell, lots of good food in SOCO.

Make a stop at Waterloo Records. Around the corner from there is the 9th street trail.(BMX dirt jumping and shite) Really cool watching those guys.

And, what I thought was a good burger, Huts. It's up on West 6th. West 6th is much cleaner than the east end.

Loved Austin. And I would venture a guess and say the ratio of yoga pants is higher than anywhere else I have been. It is truly a beautiful thing.

My favorite place in Austin - The Ginger Man, if you like craft beer, drop in.

I used to work up in Fort Hood quite a bit, and would stay in Austin and make the drive up.

Made the Ole Miss/Longhorns game last year, didn't pay too much attention to the game, as I was locked into twitter following the AU/MSU game.

Crown & Anchor
Damn, I've not thought of that place in YEARS. Many a frosty beverage consumed there during law school.

Is the Posse East still around?

Someone mentioned Pinthouse Pizza. A buddy of mine is headmaster at a private school in Austin, and I went there with him and his wife a year or two ago.

Good pizza and EXCELLENT beer.
