That's not a bad seasons though. Bert did it twice in a row and parlayed it into a more lucrative gig at Arkansas.

Could have been three in a row, but he quit on his team and bailed before the end of the season, a la Steve Spurrier.

I wouldn't be surprised, at least no more so than I'd be surprised that a university in a deadly conference in a deadly division with mediocre-to-poor local recruiting grounds managed to under any coach

you have nailed it. it is what it is. being in the SEC west, esp with nick saban in it is just the wrong place for Arkansas. at least right now. he's a good enough coach; he just doesn't have the hosses.

I'm kind of torn on this. I know we don't recruit close to the top of the conference or anything, but we've been up there in number of NFL draft picks the past few years and have 8 guys going to the combine this year, same as Florida. So there is some talent on the team but the inconsistency is maddening.

results as of today:

using sec country's scientific polling/averaging that puts him at 64% approval overall rating. it's great to know the good people of arkansas appreciate the job coach bielema is doing.

6-6 will be his ceiling sadly next season.

Christ. Plenty of people said that this year and we were two collapses away from 9 wins (Yeah, yeah, I know. That's a big 'if').

I honestly think the Razorbacks have more raw talent across the board next year than they have in Bret's entire tenure. They may not be able to put it together and end up having a losing record, but acting like 6 wins is the ceiling before even seeing the team in spring or fall practice is absurd.

The schedule is horrendous. Check it out. We'll also be learning a completely new defensive system. 6-6.

Bielema has done a good job at Arkansas IMO. They are at least competitive in a very tough West division. His problem is he needs to recruit better and that's a tough job at Arkansas.

There are other problems as well.

With us playing the pro style system on offense, you can get to the point of having to outscore your opponent every game. Our defense was atrocious the last 2 years. With a moderately decent defensive showing, we would have won 9+ game each of the last 2 seasons.

and, there is a correlation between winning and recruiting. FIX THE D BAUX!!!

You are correct, Wisconsin fans were mad as hell he left. They are now on i believe their third hire after CBB left Wisconsin. He left good players in the fold.

Only the leftist Arkansas fans are talking crap (the voted for Hillary) and make noise and don't attend games. We can run the 3-4 defense because we are loaded with that type of defenders. It will be a learning curve no doubt, but it's not rocket science.

If you think that schedule is horrendously difficult, you might want to start rooting for a team outside of the SEC. Every game is winnable except for the Bama and LSU away games (unless O has some sort of melt down).

And the best defense Arkansas had in years just so happened to be the same year they brought in a brand new DC. So a new defensive philosophy isn't automatically a death knell.

Can't, it won't reach.

I am more down on Bret than I have ever been after the way the season ended but I'm not going to declare the season over in February.
