Solution from LSU people-pull your panties up. I apologize to the aubies about the intelligence factor. It just got trumped.

This coming from a school whose answer to the problem is to just fall on the ground(most intelligent).

Damn, you're getting pretty defensive. I've never looked at a football rule book and never care to

Well, here, allow me to fix that for you.

Substitution Procedures

Legal Substitutions
ARTICLE 2. A legal substitute may replace a player or fill a player vacancy
provided none of the following restrictions is violated:

c. 1. An incoming legal substitute must enter the field of play directly from his team area, and a substitute, player or departing player must depart at the sideline nearest his team area and proceed to his team area.

I think it should go back to like it was in the early seventies when both teams could only substitute 2 players on any given play, unless there had been change of possession. Watching the kick six was like deja vu all over again if you can remember watching John Hannah, Jim Krapf, and Buddy Brown trying to chase down Johnny Rodgers.

Or, maybe even better, we should make basketball like football. Just run subs out on the floor without making them check in at the scorers table or wait to be beckoned in by the officials. Try and get a sub in before the offense throws the ball in.

Helluva idea! Seriously, I like your idea about going back to the 2 players per play substitution rule. That would end the debate.

It is so terrible to have to play by a set of rules. Just so you know "Legend", that the offense has always been in control of when the ball is snapped. I know...freaky huh.

So, now we are not worried about safety but subbing...good diversion tactic.

This started with safety...so maybe we should address the 300lb plus linemen on either side of the ball....how is heart disease canidate for safety...no one going after that one...get their arse in shape so they can keep up.

DCs should just learn to move the personel around better. The rule will not really allow for substitutions anyway because it is unreasonable to think a DC can size up a formation, call for a substitution and have the player in place in 10 seconds. What this rule change is really about is those few plays a game where the DCs don't have the time to shift alignment and move players around. Those few plays a game where they don't have time to react and strategize.

I bet most of them didn't even realize that there were only an average of 5-6 plays a game where the ball was snapped before 10 seconds. However, they always have the thought in their mind that it could be and that makes them fearful of moving guys around and getting caught in transition. So most often, they just roll with the obvious mis-match or burn a timeout. Make no mistake, this rule is simply about certain coaches wanting that GUARaNTEED 10 seconds to shift alignments and personnel ALREADY on the field.

The substitution and safety thing was just the best way to try and get the rule to pass.

API would do what they do best-cry and whine. Just like they've been doing for 2 wks.now. They sure didn't say anything about a year and half ago when Saban approached the subject.

There was plenty said then - just disbelief that someone would be so terrified of a style of play that they would even consider changing the rules for everyone else.

Also the reason not much was made of it is that no one knew the cowards would sneak behind their backs and try to get it passed without discussion from everyone. On false pretenses too. Safety,
