Yea, Walker had 209 more carries than DMac. Using averages, DMac would have had more yards than Walker in his three years at Arkansas.

It was just awesome to watch DMac in person. The bigger the game, the better he performed. I'll never forget the night I saw him torch South Carolina for 320+ yards.

Dude was electric

IIRC, Daren Bates hit Ingram late or helmet-to-helmet or something like that in the 2009 Iron Bowl in the first quarter.
That was Greg McElroy. He hit Mark Ingram in the hip while he was running through a hole. It was a solid fricking hit, too. That's one thing Daren Bates was known for.

Did he?

Dmac also played in 5 more games than HW. If we went by AVG per carry then DMAC goes down the list quite a bit

And Hershel and Bo aspired to be Cannon

Funny quote from Billy Cannon when he was presented with an award not long long after LSU and UT played (and I'm going from memory so I may not get the quote 100 percent correct but it's the gist of what he said), "Y'all fly me all the way up here to accept this award but last week you wouldn't let me go a single yard."

He was referencing getting stopped short of a TD that would've won the game and accepting the award in Tennessee. Billy was a beloved figure by everyone in his day not just at LSU but not many know about him now.

I wasnt lying when I said Cannon was football in America. Bud Adams, met him in the endzone after the Sugar Bowl his senior year in order to sign him to the AFL. He was the 1st pick in both drafts. IMHO, he is the only other running back that took over the football landscape in college like Bo and Hershel did

Worst Heisman choice

Actually, that would be Pat Sullivan.
Quick, tell me who was more deserving, based on statistics and level of competition, than Sullivan was in 1971.

Worst thing that happened was that Sully received the award three days before the most important game of his life. I don't know that it would have made a difference in the outcome, but I wonder if the distraction of winning college football's most prestigious award (and the travel involved in attending the Downtown Athletic Club banquet to accept it) on a Wednesday night might have affected his performance the following Saturday afternoon.

I dare say we will never see the likes of Hershel and Bo again. Amazingly they came along at almost the same time.
What seperated them from other backs in history?

Size- both 6-1 around 230
Speed- both in the 4.2 to 4.3 range
Strength-EXTREME lower body strength that enabled them to literally run through you without slowing down.

The closest thing I ever saw to them may have been George Rogers (wasn't SEC during his days) without the speed tho. You probably have to go outside the SEC to Earl Campbell and even he was like 4.6 guy if I recall.

Give Dmac 209 more carries and no Felix Jones? I'm pretty sure he would have caught and passed Walker.

He would have died. He can't stay healthy now in the pros. Michael Bush got another chance in the league because McFadden turned to glass in the pros.

Cecil Collins would have made all look silly if not for his nagging habit of breaking into homes to watch white women sleep.

DMac was healthy in college besides his kicking incident prior to USC in 2006.

So I highly doubt your injury claim...

If we're talking about the 1971 Iron Bowl, I don't think Sullivan's fatigue could have made a 24-point difference against a defense that allowed 10.2 points per game.

who would that be barry sanders? lol barry had a playoff game where he had negative yards

emmitt on the other hand has games like the giants win where he ran for 160 or whatever and caught 10 passes with a seperated shoulder

Barry was the sole reason they made the playoffs. The Cowboys could have put any above average rb in there and still had pretty much the same results.

The bolded player doesn't deserved to be mentioned in the same breathe as the other 3. Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker and Darren McFadden were head and shoulders better than Mark Ingram.

I agree. Ingram wasn't quite on the same level.

I'm not sure a RB could reach the level of those 3 today, because the game's so different. Not saying it couldn't happen, but I'm just not sure.

It's crazy how fast he got to the end zone on that play.

Seriously?

Greg Pruitt, Johnny Musso, Lydell Mitchell, Jerry Tagge - all were better.

If getting an award in the middle of the week causes you to get monkey stomped to the tune of 24 points, then you never deserved said award to begin with.

The worst thing a QB can do is win a Heisman BEFORE playing Alabama.

This is a really homer response, but if Marcus Lattimore had stayed healthy he could have been in that pantheon. Dude was pretty much unstoppable his sophomore year before his first knee injury.

1st team all SEC his freshman year, SEC Freshman of the year, Natl. Fresh of the year.

One of the biggest cases of what if in CFB history.
