It really does kind of make you choke up a bit. They both sat through our shite years and don't get to experience the great times we are currently having.

Bernard of Chartres used to compare us to dwarfs perched on the shoulders of giants. He pointed out that we see more and farther than our predecessors, not because we have keener vision or greater height, but because we are lifted up and borne aloft on their gigantic stature.

Seriously though, it sucks that they aren't around to experience the seasons these teams are having.

I knew Stan pretty well and he was a great guy. Can only imagine Jack was as well from the way MSU fans speak about him. Both dying this year and the year both our programs are having almost feels like the sports Gods feel our loss as well.
