Based on recruiting rankings, you are wrong ..

3. Louisiana State
4 5-stars
48 4-stars
30 3-stars

11. Mississippi State
1 5-star
15 4-stars
56 3-stars

There is a big gap, I agree, but it's not as pronounced as this recruiting ranking would suggest. Several of these 3 stars would have been ranked as 4 stars, had they come out of bigger states and high schools. For example, Brandon Bryant would have been a high 4* if he'd come out of Texas or Georgia. He's a 3 star MS recruit (Rosa Fort), and probably the most combine ready guy on the team when he got here.

Why? I don't see anybody on here making a claim that we are winning the West or anything. Nobody saying we are great.

However, there are a lot of you who think of us as the same ole MSU. We're not. We've gone from crap to mediocre (or even solid once every 2 or 3 years). That's all.

Most State fans are expecting a close game and think we have a SHOT to win. That's not unreasonable. ESPN agrees. Nobody is legitimately saying we are a better program than LSU. But we have competed well with them in recent years. Alabama is the only team that we still don't compete well with.

If we win or lose Saturday, we are still a decent team that can be a tough out for any SEC team outside of Bama.

We have just gone from knowing LSU was gonna blow us out to thinking we can squeak one out.

What's wrong with that?

It is no coincidence that MSU's has the #1 D as well as the #1 defensive efficiency in the country.

Then why can't you do good most of the time

The defense does have talent. We usually have talent at RB and QB. For the most part, wr has at least 1. But the OL is where State has lacked. With no depth there either.
Can't compete with the big boys without OL. Doesn't matter how good the QB, RB, WR are without the OL vs the big boys. The elite DLs of the SEC have been able to stop States O keep the D on the field and wear them down. I don't think our OL has gelled yet this year. But I think they can be good enough to sneak a win vs one of the ranked teams we play. This week will be tough for them. Hoping the D can hang long enough to keep State in it til the end.
