Some cars can be a nice investment.

Watch is a much better "investment" than a car.

What new car can you buy, drive, and sell for more than you paid for it?

It was a former Auburn player, so I think we can just assume it does both of those things.

Don't have to sell it for more than you paid. Just have to make sure it doesn't depreciate in value too much while you get some use out of it.

Or, you know, just live to be 100 and sell it as a "classic car."

A truck will haul my boat, get me places, haul lumber, dirt, four wheelers, deer and anything else I want to move or haul around... and it will have a clock on the interior.

Practicality is > status to me.

Even younger, a watch or jewelry would be the last on the list. Harley's, jet skis, 4 wheelers, jeep, boat, lake property, land would all be first item buys.

I didn't say drive.
Limited edition Ferrari's, Porsche"s, and shite like that. Hell even some domestics that are limited in production numbers.

That's minimal depreciation

A truck may depreciate, but it can be used to make you money and has every day practical use.

Don't worry, they'll be buying these things also

Another things that gets lost is the cultural aspect of this. You see the black players buying jewelry and flashy cars but I'm pretty sure the white guys load up on the items like supped up trucks, 4 wheelers, boats, lake property, expensive hunting gear, ect. These items are not as noticeable and better suit the media driven perception of athletes

The real trouble these athletes get into is when they feel they can't say no to family and friends. If there is one professional that many could learn from off the top of my head is Jamal Mashburn.

Jamal Mashburn earned more than $75 million before his career was cut short by a serious knee injury. But he has put together a powerful post-basketball business dossier which includes 37 Papa John’s pizza restaurants, 30 Outback Steakhouses, two car dealerships and a real estate company in the state of Kentucky.
