I think athleticism in a weird way is part of the problem. AAU basketball in the South seems to consist of little more than rolling the ball out there and having players play solely on athleticism. Watch most SEC teams and then watch teams like Wichita State, Xavier, Iowa, Dayton, etc and other schools that recruit fundamentally solid basketball players with developed skill sets as opposed to the athletes who happen to play basketball in the SEC and the difference is striking. Literally every play on Wichita State's team can handle the ball and create offensively. Alabama has 2 maybe 3 players that can dribble more than 8 seconds without turning the ball over.

Yeah those schools have awesome coaches. Wichita, Xavier, and Dayton are all located near some very good talent.

All of these kids play in the same AAU system.

Player development seems to be an issue for a lot of the SEC schools. The coaching staffs simply haven't done enough to truly enhance a lot of these guys capabilities. Kudos to the schools who have made upgrades and are starting to put forth the effort.

I guess it's just that the better athletes play football instead of basketball here and vice versa on the the east coast/mid west

Of course the idea is ridiculous.

The SEC was hell on wheels in the 90's. The league needs to get back there.

This league has UK and always will. This league needs Arkansas to be consistent again. That's not homer talk, but the Arkansas fan base will travel for a winner. It is a rabid basketball fan base. The league needs LSU to be solid again.

When Arkansas came into the league, we were a final four program. LSU had Shaq and Dale. Alabama was solid. UK was UK. Florida had a final four in the 90's and they were getting going.

The league needs its basketball rabid fan base programs, to be good again. A good Arkansas draws ESPN. A good Florida draws ESPN. A good LSU draws ESPN. UK always draws ESPN.

Relevance lies in the eye of the viewers...Viewers aren't interested in the SEC network games.

Not at all. Inability to hire and keep quality coaches is at the crux of the issue. Say all you want to about coaches of the past but this cast of comedians leading programs right now is an absolute punchline grandslam. God they're awful.

It goes in cycles. The SEC has had a major upgrade in coaches recently. The group of Ray, Barbee, Martin, and Grant is now Howland, Pearl, Barnes, and Johnson. All of them have reached the elite 8 or NBA finals as a coach. It will take time, but soon you can add a few teams to the list of perennial NCAA tournament teams.

Dean Also Ran Smith would be an upgrade. We have the worst group of coaches of any conference by far.

Don't play stupid. Three, three, teams made the field of 680. If that's not concerning then should become a habit.

Yeah most of the league either has first or 2nd year guys. Martin and Kennedy have proven they are building things at their schools. Like that was one of the more out of the blue dumb comments I have seen in a while. Like worse than normal SEC Rant CBB retardation.

NC, you think Pearl, Howland, Johnson, Barnes, Martin and Kennedy are jokes and terrible coaches?
